I know this topic (lens) will bring back memories for many of you. I have been collecting Takumar and a few other old lenses ever since I bought one years ago because I did not feel that I at the time could afford the Canon EF 50/1.4..

This morning is the first time I have mounted one of these 50+ year old lenses in over a year, what a delight, I had forgotten just how fun it is to shoot with these beautiful old lenses.

I have a Sigma Art 50mm, a $950 lens and it may be a tad sharper wide open than this lens.... but you can pick up these old Taks for between $75 and $125 on eBay depending on their cosmetic condition. The 55mm f/1.8 is also an amazing lens that sells in the $40 range. A lot of guys that served in Vietnam came home with Pentax gear.

I have about 30 old legacy lenses, mostly Pentax Takumars but I have a few others as well, Canon's Minoltas, Olympuses, and a few Vivitar Series 1. I guess that if I could only keep one it would be my Pentax K series 50/1.2, it is pristine.

I came back with Minolta SRT 101 gear. I shot mostly slides back then but I also had brief BW darkroom access.

Those Takumar lenses were/are great glass. During my film days, I was a Pentax fan and have had three or four of them, two Spotmatics, a K1000 and currently a Pentax MX. The light blocking strips or shot and need to be replaced, which I’m considering doing and playing around with film a bit. I have the 50mm f/1.8 lens on the MX. Great cameras. And that’s a nice photo of a lovely young lady.
