Well then you have your head in the sand because they have called Trump vile names for four years as have politicians like Schiff and Waters and as have actors and actresses.

The right has never stooped to the level that the left has done for the past four years. Annud the fact that you are unaware of that but claim to be an informed voter is truly frightening.

So you believe that in order to be an informed voter, you must watch late night comedians. That is sick......but funny. So, tell me, what do these late night comedians call Trump that you find so terribly offensive.

I’m sorry if you are offended by my reading the Economist and the New Yorker magazines and a newspaper in the evening instead of watching comedians on TV.
No wonder you said, “Annud the fact that you are unaware of that but claim to be an informed voter is truly frightening.” First, I haven’t claimed to be an informed voter.....and second, I don’t expect I would ever qualify as an informed voter based on the fact I watched late night comedians....nor should you. If you still find this frightening, I

P.S. Ever hear of Obummer, Dimocrats, Demorats?

Yes, I have heard all the names that Obama was called and that democrats have been called. None of that comes close to what Trump has been called for the last four years. The fact that you can't see that means that you have your head stuck in the sand.

The disgusting things people have said about Trump have been on the news, and all over television. The fact that you claim to have not seen any of them absolutely means that you are uninformed, or worse, approve of the level of partisan discord and lack of civility.

I mentioned comedians not because they are particularly relevant to society, but because they are on nightly doing things that you claim have not happened. This part of the thread started because you claimed that people have not called Trump any particularly bad names, nor particularly mistreated him. I was just listing a small portion of the people who did indeed name call, and unlike with Obama where those people were only people on threads like UHH in the case of Trump those people were on radio and television and in the press and on social media 24/7 attacking Trump for the past four years. If you are truly unaware of that then you are uninformed. If you are aware of it, then you are a liar for denying that it happened. Take your pick. I don't care which you are.

The national debt belongs to all of us. We can’t continue to give the wealthy tax cuts and say this is wonderful. It’s unsustainable. I am moot going to look it up, but prior to Reagan and David Stockman, the rate for high income people was 70 percent or more (at one time it was 90 percent. The country did great during that period. The reason was that corporation could give their profits to their workers or to the government. Guess who they gave it to.

Now corporations give it to stockholders and corporate officers. Why? Because it is taxed at the lower Capital gains rate that didn’t exist before and shouldn’t exist now for unearned high income recipients.

When the upper tax rates were 70 to 90 percent the US economy boomed. Factories were built, airports were built, highways were built, research and development flourished, wages were livable, mothers could stay home and raise their little ones.

Then came David Stockman and Reagan. Cut takes and everything will be wonderful, they said. What happened. We went from a lender nation to a debtor nation. We have been a debtor nation ever since. It all became worse when George W. Bush started two (count them) unprovoked wars and thought he could pay for them using the same reasoning you are using. That is, cutting taxes will stimulate the economy and increase revenue. It didn’t work then and it won’t work now.

One thing you need to understand. The stock market is not the economy. Your 401k is not the economy. The economy belongs to all of us including the debt. We have been giving far too much to the stock market and too little to those who produce wealth......the workers.

Something you are forgetting a high tax rate for corporations makes moving their operations overseas smart business. You really can't blame them. Our labor rate is incredibly higher than China India or taiwan to mention a few. When these companies can save millions or billions on labor and pay a puny tariff when their products come back to the U.S. it pays to do this. Trump has rewarded these corporations with lower taxes if they will bring back their businesses which in turn lowers our unemployment. For the corporations who refuse that he is penalizing them with higher tariffs to import their goods. The fact he is not paid off by other countries like Biden is speaks highly for him.

So you are advocating for a race to the bottom. The American worker would have a standard of living like people in Bangladesh. People living where I do would die either by starvation or freezing to death.....their choice.

There are other ways of making it work.

I asked you a simple question. What do these people on TV call Trump? I don’t believe they do.....sorry. So enlighten me.

I don’t watch much TV so I guess I have my head in the sand. I prefer that to having my head inundated with BS as you seem to prefer. As I said, I get my news from the Economist, newspapers and the New Yorker. They don’t call people names.

Speaking of name calling, at least when trump went to Arlington Cemetery on Veterans Day he had the good sense to keep his mouth shut instead of giving a speech about suckers and losers who got nothing for their sacrifice.

For once you have said something that I largely agree with. But, you have to admit, all the Democrats saying that now that Biden has won we have to play nice are guaranteeing that we are not going to go along. It isn't a matter of who's grievance is bigger, it's a matter of for four years they refused to accept Trump as president and now they want us to accept a senile old man before the election has even been certified. Not going to happen.

So you've shown that the sources you rely on to stay informed are not quite enough. Trump's comments about veterans being suckers and losers have been debunked by a signed letter issued by people in the room and the inability of the Atlantic to produce anyone "on the record" who witnessed the comments.

I work as an engineer but my undergraduate degree is in economics. I canceled my subscription to The Economist years ago because of their liberal bias. Many pundits and publications are labeled as conservative for the convenience of liberals. Their articles and views give liberal media "conservative" sources to show a nationwide consensus that supports their positions.

Several issues here:
Trump did say those things about dead veterans.

From the Atlantic:

“When President Donald Trump canceled a visit to the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery near Paris in 2018, he blamed rain for the last-minute decision, saying that “the helicopter couldn’t fly” and that the Secret Service wouldn’t drive him there. Neither claim was true.

Trump rejected the idea of the visit because he feared his hair would become disheveled in the rain, and because he did not believe it important to honor American war dead, according to four people with firsthand knowledge of the discussion that day. In a conversation with senior staff members on the morning of the scheduled visit, Trump said, “Why should I go to that cemetery? It’s filled with losers.” In a separate conversation on the same trip, Trump referred to the more than 1,800 marines who lost their lives at Belleau Wood as “suckers” for getting killed.”

2. You criticize my sources of information but you never stated yours. I suspect it is Fox News. An extremely unreliable source to be sure.

If you say trump never called dead military people losers and suckers then you should quote your source. I just debunked what you said about Trump.

As a nearly 30 year military veteran, I was appalled by what he said and what you believe.

Also, the Economist is considered the 3rd most reliable source of news. Fox is way down the list. Your call the Economist too liberal. You should be reading and watching the truth rather than propaganda that reinforces your right wing biases. The Economist is far from being a liberal news source and the title does not mean it is only about the economy.

I am trying to find the transcript of the interview where Jeffery Goldberg admitted that his sources may have misrepresented (fabricated) Trump's comments in France. It is amazing how hard it is to use Google to find anything pro-Trump. Ultimately, no one would go on the record about the quote and now that it looks like Trump is on his way out, you would think one of the four sources would.

Here is an article in Newsweek shortly after the Atlantic story.

Here is A collection of statements from Whitehouse insiders about the Trip. It is Trump's site, but some of the responders are not Trump cheerleaders.

Every legal citizen is entitled to their opinion and their vote. I appreciate and thank you for your service as a veteran. I think in this election many people could not get past Trump's personality. My mother could not. She's 92 now and I had to witness her vote for Biden and drop it in the mail for her. With her being that anti-Trump and her news source being NBC and our local paper there was no other way she was going to cast her ballot any other way.

I have a serious time believing anything that comes from cable and television news, even Fox. Trump did many things in a way I did not agree with. He is a braggart and a crass individual, but I weighed his agenda against Biden's and Trump's was a clear choice.

BTW, my father was in the Army from 1938 to 1972 and my son is in the Army now. My son and almost everyone in his unit voted for Trump. Despite what you hear to the contrary, he has pretty good support among current troops.

Most of the military is smart enough to know that the anonymous sources which make that claim are not to be trusted when other people who were there insist that it never happened.

The military personnel that I know support Trump because he has supported the military when it comes to budgetary issues and when it comes to things like transgenders being allowed to serve.

You would be surprised how negative the military views transgenders being allowed to serve. Not because they are transgender, but because they miss way more work time than average soldiers, they spent a lot military of funding on sex change operations, which is part of why they miss work time, and as a group they hurt military discipline.

Obama and Biden, and yes, Biden has to be included because Obama gave Biden wide latitude on a number of foreign policy issues hurt the military's capability and moral. Trump has improved both. So, yes, even if he did say something stupid about soldiers his actions have made the military stronger while Obama's actions weakened the military.

Oh, by the way, my son in law was an extreme liberal to the point that politics were banned from conversation at family functions until Obama became president. Like me, he did not vote for Trump in 2016 because of Trumps well documented problems, but like me, he did vote for Trump in 2020.

Why do you think that Trump got more votes this year than he did in 2016? It was because those of us who did not believe that Trump would actually stand for conservative values and did not like his personality were won over by his policy decisions. Hate the man all you want, but you should be arguing the merits of policy not what someone may or may not have said.

And, don't forget that Biden called a group of soldiers stupid bastards and that is on video, so it isn't just an allegation. Of course, his spokesperson now says it was a joke. Biden hasn't responded because he doesn't remember, which is not a surprise, he doesn't even remember how many grandchildren he has. He keeps saying he has six, when he has at least seven. Fails to count Hunters kid with the stripper every time.

He has also called his granddaughter Beau, said he is running for president against George and said that he is running for a seat in the senate, all this year. So, yes, military people would rather vote for Trump than Biden.
