I have one in my pocket and a bunch in my camera bag in a small zipped bag that contained a backpacking towel originally. I put an elastic band around each charged battery. If I find one with no band, I know it is dead.

Op/Tech has a couple of options. They are cheap, well designed and made in the USA. It fits right on my camera strap and will hold a spare battery AND spare memory card. I really don’t even know it’s there.
I use the small one as it has a lot of stretch.

I use the OpTech battery holder on my strap also. It works great.

I use a plastic bag to store the batteries in. I have 3 batteries. I have them numbered so I can keep track. I rubber band them together with the contacts on opposite sides.
Years ago when I was starting in photography I was walking around with 2 batteries and a sylvania m3 flashbulb in my pocket. Believe it or not (kind of weird) somehow the flashbulb went off in my pocket! I was only 8 or 9 years old so I was still learning. Everything melted in my pocket and burned me kind of bad. I learned to make sure the hard way to make sure that everything is kept separate and insulated!
So make sure you keep everything insulated and safe!

You can just throw them in a pocket of your cam bag naked. If you examine them carefully you will notice that the contacts, on the battery, are slightly recessed, so there's little, to no, chance for them coming in contact with each other and shorting out. I do this all the time and have never had a problem.

Buzzkill, buzzkill !

Acoarst I do the same as you but our approach to a toadall nonissue would never attract 200 posts ....
