I have been shooting this lens (100x400 II) with my 1DX mark III for the last several weeks. Previously I had it on my 7DII I liked the crop factor of the 7DII, but the image quality on the 1D Mark X III is so much better. I have no issues with the lens. It takes professional quality pictures

I am thinking about doing some trading and getting one of these lenses. I've read a lot of reviews and it seems to be a very capable lens. Does anyone have one or any comments about his lens? Thanks. It will be a new lens. To be used with a Canon 6D Mark ll or a 90D.
Awesome lens. Much improved over the one it replace which was a push pull zoom. What makes it so much better is how sharp it is. It's much sharper than the old one. I know because I owned the old one and replaced it with the new one as soon as I saw how wonderful it is.....
It is a good lens and heavy. But you can spend half the money on a Sigma for a nearly imperceptible drop in quality--I did the test.
I have used this lens on my 5Dmarkiv for several years. It is outstanding and produces very sharp results.
I have a 100 - 400 mm Mk1 and love it! That and my Canon T6i (crop sensor) are my choice for aviation photography. The Mk1 lens uses a 'trombone' slide to adjust the zoom as opposed to a ring that turns to adjust the zoom. Using this lens on a crop sensor gives me an equivalent length of 640 mm when it's out all of the way and works well with aircraft....
The photo is of a F-35 departing a local airport.
Imho it's one of the best lenses of all time. The close focus capability, is performance and sharpness at all apertures and zoom make it ideal when only the best will do.
I have used this lens for years and will for many years to come.
If something happened to mine I would replace it immediately.
I have found, along with my friends that the Canon 100-400 mk2 is a far superior lens than the mk1. Everyone I know has upgraded to the mk2.

I have met one wildlife and sports photographer who prefers the "trombone" zoom for fast reaction to movement by the subjects.
And the mk1 is perfectly capable of producing publishable images. I used one for a few years. The faster AF response and the closer minimum distance focusing were the two main reasons I went to the mk2. And I kept and used the mk1 on a second body for several months before I used it as part of a trade to move my FF body from 6D to 5DIV.
