The lens in question is a 50mm F1.8D.

I was responding to the post by Mac. He said only AFs Nikon lens has bayonet hood!

I have a Nikon AF Nikkor 50mm 1:1.8 D with a lens hood that came with it. If I put on any kind of filter whether a UV or polarizer and then try re-attach the lens hood it will not go on no matter what I try. It's frustrating.

I'm guessing the issue is your filters and not the lenshood. Is the outer diameter larger the the inner threads that screw onto the lens?
Playing with filters, hoods and such toys can send you and your money down the rabbit hole.

You are right, if it is a screw on hood it should be able to screw on to the filters.

Some of the slimline filters have no threads in the front of the filter and therefore will not accept an additional filter or screw-on lens shade.

You did say "non of my AI, AIs or AF lenses take a bayonet hood, only AFs lenses"
Is it correct? May be I misunderstood, sorry!

If your lens hood is a screw mount that goes inside the lens. You won't be able to mount a filter. But if you hood is a bayonet mount you shouldn't have any trouble.

That is not correct. It is possible to mount a screw on filter. See some of the prior posts for details.
