Some of them are so sharp...you should wear gloves using them.

I shot Canon and Nikon Pro SLRs and DSLRs for 40 years (both brands) and then moved to Sony mirrorless in January 2017, and have never looked back. Canon's latest mirrorless cameras have been hit and miss IMHO. Sony fullframe mirrorless still outsells Canon and Nikon fullframe mirrorless. But it isn't all about sales. Sony's fullframe mirrorless system is much larger and with the E-mount being the most widely produced and used mirrorless lens mount in the world, Sony cameras have a distinct system advantage.

The rumor sites are full of upcoming mirrorless wonders coming from Sony, Canon and Nikon. We can expect some excellent models from all makers. Nothing so far has convinced me to switch my system back to Canon or Nikon.

The Associated Press, the worldwide news service, has just switched from Canon to Sony exclusively for its hundreds of both still and video staff photographers worldwide.

In preparation for the upcoming Summer Olympics in 2021 expect each brand to put their best foot forward.

In UHH you have very vocal fanboys for their beloved brands. I loved my Nikons and Canons when I used them and made many award-winning shots with each brand. But I choose the equipment that does the best job for all the varied work I do around the world. Right now by a wide margin that is Sony. I have owned Sony mirrorless A6500, A7RII, A7III, A7RIII, and now I own Sony A9, A7RIV and A7SIII. And I own 12 E-mount lenses from 10mm to 600mm from Sony, Sigma and Tamron.

Shoot whatever gear you like and be happy. But no one brand can claim total mirrorless leadership. There are too many excellent players in the mirrorless market , each offering their own technical innovations, including from Panasonic, Fuji, Sony, Canon, Nikon, and Leica.

Canon may sell the largest total number of cameras worldwide, but Sony worldwide still sells the most fullframe mirrorless cameras. Sony leadership and innovation created the fullframe mirrorless market. And E-Mount lenses from Sony, Sigma, Tamron, Samyang/Rokinon, Laowa, Zeiss, Meike, Viltrox, and others still make up the largest selection of mirrorless lenses by a wide margin over any other mirrorless lens mounts. Just the facts.

Everyone knows DXO hates Canon. So, once you start quoting DXO as your source, your credibility as a knowledgeable source goes to zero, regardless of your overall point ....

Also DXO has been very quiet lately with Canon sensors now surpassing the Sony sensors.

I made the mistake of thinking a maker of televisions could jump into the camera business. They still make great TVs. They got out of the camera business once before. They were in over their heads and were unable to learn and grow. They bailed out on customers once, what makes you think they won't bail again when an unforeseen problem shuts down their entire line? Canon makes imaging equipment. Sony makes televisions. Huge difference! Maybe Ford will bring back the Edsel?

Just some information. For 30 years I was in marketing. We had Sony video equipment. TV stations had Sony cameras. Out master video decks were Sony. Sony has been in the imaging business for years. Sony acquired
Minolta and eventually released DSLR's and mirrorless cameras that changed the whole game.
Canon is a great company. I like their camera's stills and video. A Sony NEX camera bought and taken on a trip
to london amazed me. I still own the Sony a7s II and it is an amazing camera. I own a Sony pxw-x70 10 bit video camera 6 years ago. Shot 100 video with it. Running and triathlon events. Local commercials and docs.
I paid $2500 for the camcorder and it can be had for now new for $1700. Canon makes great camera's and lens. I would love to own of their camcorders great gear. But pricing is way to high. They have many lens.
How many lens do you need?? Pricing is also what made the Sony surge. They were more affordable. Canon started the DSLR video rage with a video make on the II. The video and director became famous and started a revolution in doc video. My favorite Nikon waited and Canon waited years to join mirrorless. Unless you have specific assignments or creative work why would you need so many lens?

Keep dreaming, Canon sensors have not surpassed Sony sensors. Canon is putting out sensors that overheat and can't function beyond a few minutes with severe time limits. This pro isn't falling into that Canon fanboy trap. DXO and others will wait for these next Canon's to actually come into reality and be tested. No one is falling for the Canon rumor hype anymore after the fiasco with the Canon hype vs reality for the R5 and R6 sensors and cameras. Cheers

I think you might be overstating the facts on that overheating issue. I had read it was after 20 minutes of 4k video shooting, not with normal still shooting. Would you have any info otherwise?

How are Canon lens choices better than Sony? Specifics? Image quality, build, selection, range, focus speed, focus accuracy, claotings, flare, abberation, price, customer service??

Lens choices?
How many TS lenses does Sony have?
8-15mm Fisheye"
800mm?
And literally dozens in between.
Let us talk about choice.
Then add the hundreds of FD, FL and R lenses now useable on R cameras.
Many of which are also unique to Canon like the FLM 100mm f4.
Get real.

Sony has hundreds of lenses. They have more lenses suitable for mirror less bodies than any manf.

I am not trying to start another childish pissing match. I would like to see people support their statements with specifics.

Here is an interesting article about sales leaders. The Sony r III is not Sony's most recent model. The R IV came out about a year ago.

Rockwell has been saying for a few years that Canon is best. That should pretty much settles it, right?

He doesn't post his occasional editorials distinct from his product reviews. If you scroll down a bit to the Oct 1, 2020 post, he has some hard thoughts about Nikon's v II Z-body releases. He's not too keen on Sony either, saying: Sony lacks the ergonomics and vivid colors, Nikon no longer has the resources and support to keep up, and Fujifilm doesn't even make full-frame cameras, while Canon's mirrorless system already has the most innovative lenses and the best, fastest and least-expensive full-frame mirrorless cameras.

See https://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/00-new-today.htm for topic "NEW: Nikon Z7 II and Z6 II", posted October 01, 2020.

To your other questions earlier, Canon Professional Services (CPS) is the premier support organization all the other companies aspire to achieve.

Rumor has it the R1 (R1X?) will be 20 or 21MP, full frame, global shutter, will have 20 stop dynamic range and be able to shoot at 120 frames per second with the electronic shutter.

To date, there are fifteen Canon RF lenses for the R-series cameras.

RF 15-35mm f/2.8L IS USM
RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM
RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM
RF 24-105mm f/4-7.1 IS STM
RF 24-240mm f/4-6.3 IS USM
RF 28-70mm f/2L USM
RF 35mm f/1.8 IS Macro STM
RF 50mm f/1.2L USM
RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM
RF 85mm f/2 Macro IS STM
RF 85mm f/1.2L USM
RF 85mm f/1.2L USM DS
RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L IS USM
RF 600mm f/11 IS STM
RF 800mm f/11 IS STM

There are two more RF lenses expected by the end of the year:

RF 50mm f/1.8 STM (affordable "nifty fifty")
RF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM (ultra compact)

In two years Canon has created twice as many RF lenses for their full frame R-series cameras, as they did for the EF-M mount M-series APS-C mirrorless cameras.

There are also rumors of a ton (or tonne) of RF lenses coming in 2021.

One reasonably reliable source says to expect:

RF 10-24mm f/4L
TS-R 14mm f/4L Tilt Shift
RF 14-35mm f/4L IS USM
RF 15-35mm f/2.8L IS USM
TS-R 24mm f/3.5L Tilt Shift
RF 24mm f/1.8 IS STM Macro
RF 35mm f/1.2L USM
RF 35mm f/1.2L USM DS
RF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM
RF 100-400mm f/5.6-7.1 IS USM
RF 135mm f/1.4L USM
RF 400mm f/2.8L IS USM
RF 500mm f/4L IS USM
RF 600mm f/4L IS USM
RF 800mm f/5.6L IS USM
RF 1200mm f/8L IS USM

Another fairly good source adds two more lenses, but is only able to provide details about one of them:

RF 300mm f/2.8L IS USM
RF ????

I'm a little surprised not to see a premium zoom, such as an RF version of the EF 200-400mm f/4L IS with built-in 1.4X teleconverter.

I'll be interested to see how Canon implements Tilt-Shift lenses into the RF line-up, especially an ultrawide 14mm. One of the advantages of adapting an EF-mount TS-E 17mm f/4 lens is the EF-to-RF adapter with the drop-in allows use of filters with that lens, which is otherwise difficult due to the convex front element of that lens (also the EF 11-24mm and EF 8-15mm Fisheye). Maybe the new TS-R lenses will have a built-in drop-in filter too.

The R1 (or R1X) will be a high performance sports camera. That and some of the lenses on the 2021 list make a lot of sense, leading up to the Tokyo Olympics (June/July?)
