OK, only just rumors for 2021, but contained in these latest rumors are:

EOS R1 - flagship full-frame mirrorless model for working professionals

RF Mount Great Whites

- RF 300mm f/2.8L

- RF 400mm f/2.8L

Personally, it seems odd to release an RF 400mm f/2.8 lens given the Dec-2018 release of the vIII of the EF mount for the 400 f/2.8L. The EF 300 f/2.8L was one of Canon's initial EF lenses, made in 1987, the same year as the EOS system debut. The EF 200mm f/1.8L was a 1988 release. Maybe the Eye of Sauron will return to the lens catalog? Stay tuned.

I think Canon is going to do better than Sony 2021 simply because of their better lens choice

Put me down for one of each. You turn to buy this round, right?

I don't think Paul will buy the R1. I don't think he likes the #1. He prefers the #5. Although I think he strays away from Canon for the moment and is using Sony but I think he would go back to Canon and get the R5.

I made the mistake of thinking a maker of televisions could jump into the camera business. They still make great TVs. They got out of the camera business once before. They were in over their heads and were unable to learn and grow. They bailed out on customers once, what makes you think they won't bail again when an unforeseen problem shuts down their entire line? Canon makes imaging equipment. Sony makes televisions. Huge difference! Maybe Ford will bring back the Edsel?

They want to get the word out to the professional sports photographers for the (delayed) Olympics. Smart.

Sounds like good news for the point and shoot crowd.

LOL BebuLamar, as I say, the longer you read UHH, the more expensive it gets. Last week I was again scheming to bring forward the plan of an EOS R5 before my original plan to exhaust the usage life of my EOS 5DIII. I have a inventory file here that has my roster of EF lenses and potential RF replacements that lets me role-play the change. I can move around some sale / keep designations and File-Save the changes, letting the buy fever pass before I find any new equipment in my shopping cart.

The Sony has become enough of my standard equipment that I now find myself trying for an image review in the EVF, a feature missing from the DSLR. The Sony satisfies my mirrorless 'jones' enough while Canon again revolutionizes the industry and generates a board resale market for when I finally do want to buy.

Sony makes electronics. Modern cameras are electronic. Sony acquired Minolta and their glass manufacturing which was top rate considering when Leica made a mirror, it was made by Minolta. They have teamed up with Zeiss to produce lenses that surpass Canon and Nikon in sharpness, etc. Looking at how many new cameras are coming out of Sony. They are in it to stay and give Nikon and Canon a run for their money, right now it is Canon and Nikon that are trying to catch up to Sony on the mirrorless front.

Speaking of standard optical technology, there is no inherent advantage of the closer back focus of the mirror less bodies with telephoto lenses. Hopefully, Canon will take the opportunity to make the mirror less version lenses using affordable compact/light weight D.O. elements as Nikon has done - and I am sure the 10 pin vs 12 pins of the new mount gives them more data transfer options.

For f/2.8 lenses, I wouldn't expect that much of a discount .... For the highest end models, they have done a lot to drive down the weight and some of the size along with the IS support. Another rumor for 2021 was a low-cost 50 f/1.8 'nifty RF', something missing from this latest whisper of rumor.

Sony has the deepest choice of lenses for their mirrorless cameras ...sans adapters...than anyone else.
Some of them are so sharp...you should wear gloves using them.

FWIW, the new/cheap/light 600 and 800mm lenses are using D.O. optics.......

I haven't used either, but the video usage examples and the images are wonderful. One will likely be in my kit in the future days.

I cannot help but to believe that the small size of the E mount presents optical compromises tho ........
