What blur are you referring to? There is no blur being applied to the images. I think you may have some confusion about how noise reduction works and how sophisticated the algorithms of a good noise reduction system are.

What I refer to as blur is the lack of any fine detail after the noise reduction was applied.

Looking at downloads, I'm guessing shot two was pushed through Topaz. I see definite color shifts in the blue wings, head, and the breast feathers. It is even evident on the branch the bird is resting on. The top shot is more pleasing to my eye.

Okay, I'm going to post that same bluebird image but cropped to an 8 x 10. Then I'm posting the same 8 x 10 image that has Topaz Denoise added BUT saved in the sRGB color space. Same image I posted yesterday except cropped differently.

I looked at the OP's two images under high magnification. If there is any loss of fine detail after he applied noise reduction, I am not seeing it. Perhaps your definition of fine detail is different than mine.

The processed version is wonderful, both sharper and very clean from noise.

Much better comparison after redo. Less noise in second image. But in the crucial part of the the image, the bird, it's hard to see a diff without zooming a lot.

Yup, 2nd image had the purple cast until download was clicked. I purchased Denoise & sharpen a couple of weeks ago. If your any where near close to focused AI Clear is all you need. I used on some ISO 3200 small bird pics. Cleans them up pretty good. There was one or two that I cleaned in manually LR6 that did a better job. One thing I noticed after watching a vid on you tube is I take the sharpen & noise sliders in LR6 & slide them all the way to the left before using Denoise. Happy shooting & thanks for the post.

I was curious as to what would happen if I took the original photo, cropped to 8x10 and then used my work flow process. I use NX2 to define black/white/neutral colors, check focus and color depth with ON1 and then try de-noise in Perfectly Clear. I also used Photo Shop Elements to bring out detail of eye, darken background and branch.

Nope, same definition. Like I said at the start - I must be doing something wrong. I lost all fine definition, nobody else is.
And the OP's two images have nothing to do with my problem!

You may be overapplying noise reduction. That tends to obscure fine details. When significantly overapplied it can create what is often referred to as a "plastic" look where there is extreme smoothing resulting in the loss of both fine and not so fine, detail. There are usually 3 or 4 different sliders to adjust NR in most programs. You need to learn the best way to use these sliders in conjunction with one another. It can take a bit of practice and experience to understand how to use them properly.

And that describes exactley what happened. I know better, and not sure how it happened, but a slider got pushed too far. Thank you for the thaw in my brain freeze. Now perhaps I can make this work.
