I have used Pentax over the years from film to digital bodies. My favorite all time Pentax was the film PZ1-P. Today, I have the K50 as it can use AA batteries in a pinch. I am watching closely their development of their newest body which supposedly has a new much improved VF. For the money, their weather resistant bodies and lens are a good buy. Some of their bodies have had issues with an aperture block failure (K50,K70, K30, KS2, KX)which I am sure has hurt sales.

I started Photography with an H1a in 1970 handed down from my dad. Also bought a Spotmatic F, had a meter. The only thing I didn't like about them was the viewfinder, did not show 100%, I compose in the viewfinder and don't crop, print full frame. So traded all my Pentax for a Nikon F.
Nothing bad to say about Pentax.
Along the way I have bought a 6x7, really like the large negative.

Been using Pentax since screw mount days. Still have a nifty-fifty and 135 screw mount, but have more convenient lenses for most needs. Now use a K3 and love it. Have 112k clicks on it and just picked up another with about 7k, just in case.... Got a used 300mm f4 Star lens from a Hogger and it is amazing!
Have fun y'all!

I have owned Pentax cameras and lenses since 1969. My first Pentax was a Spotmatic II with a 50mm f1.4 lens. I upgraded to an ME Super and 135mm non-zoom lens. I bought the very thin 40mm "Pancake" lens. With that lens on my ME Super, I could put my whole camera and lens in my pocket. Great all-around camera combination.

My first digital camera was a cheap point-and-shoot Canon. Soon, I upgraded to a better point-and-shoot Pentax, with a true viewfinder. Once I got a cell phone, with a nice camera, both of those cameras were put into storage.

When I knew I wanted a true DSLR, I investigated Nikon, Canon and Pentax. Since I had a number of old Pentax lenses, which work on all Pentax cameras, and the cost vs. features of the various cameras, I decided on the Pentax K5-II and 28 to 270mm zoom lens. My thought was to use that DSLR to replace my Sony video camera. It didn't work out that way. DSLRs are difficult to use as true video cameras unless a lot of accessories are added.

Anyway, my Pentax K5-II was on sale because it was being replaced with a newer model. I got the lens on sale, too. So, my whole rig cost about $1000. With the same features, Nikon and Canon would have been over $2000 and I couldn't use all my old lenses. As an added benefit, all Pentax-brand lenses focus to infinity and change aperture in the same rotational direction.

Since my first K5-II purchase, I have purchased two additional zoom lenses, both water-resistant. My camera body is water-resistant and with a water-resistant lens, I can take my rig anywhere. Is my camera as good as a $4000 Nikon? No. But for the cost, it takes great photos, is compact, is full-featured, is reliable and fun to use.

Only if the new Pentax, that is coming out, has a swiveled back screen, would I think about replacing what I have, now.

Years ago I brought a big shopping bag of my old 35 mil stuff the local camera store advertised it wanted. The salesman played with all of it and had nothing positive to say about anything I had. He says "you should donate all this to us for our student classes and such". Their loss.

My first, and next several, SLR cameras were various spotmatics for which I acquired a full stable of prime m42 lenses. i still have the lenses and use them regularly on Canon and Fuji bodies. My adventure into pentax digital was a disaster - a combination of poor product and worse customer support. Still love the lenses, now approaching 50 years old but you couldn’t sell me a new pentax. The downward spiral from asahi to hoya to ricoh has taken a toll that is not recoverable. May they soon join olympus and give up the ghost.

My first advanced camera was a Spotmatic in the 1960s, a somewhat revolutionary camera for it's time. My current main camera is a K-1 which I use almost exclusively for landscapes and if there is a better DSLR for that I don't know what it is. I think the supposed slow autofocus on the K-1 is overstated although I'm biased and don't need fast autofocus for landscapes, using BBF most of the time

In general it's my opinion that current Pentax cameras are very well made, rugged, and with better weather resistance than some brands. I don't know anything specific about the coming APS-C DSLR but I would think it will have the same features.

I have a Pentax K-3 with the lovely 20-40 zoom. Both built like tanks. Love the results I get (okay I use DXO Filmpack for a bit of PP). No need to upgrade.

Just wondering if anyone here currently has or has had a Pentax SLR and if you have any thoughts about their cameras. Any thoughts regarding the about to be introduced APS-C camera?

Don't know anything about a new model other that what I read and that has not been much. I have a K-70 and a K-5. Both very capable and I love em.
