Just wondering if anyone here currently has or has had a Pentax SLR and if you have any thoughts about their cameras. Any thoughts regarding the about to be introduced APS-C camera?

I have a much loved Pentax 6x7 bought new in 1979 with a full kit of lenses and a surprisingly good “just for fun” Pentax Auto-110 with a 25, 50 and 30-40 zoom. The zoom is my walk around lens for that camera. Only problem is that the film is very expensive for a film of limited IQ. The optics are excellent however.

I started using Pentax cameras in 1964 with the H3v, continued with a Spotmatic and presently own a K-10 and a K-3. Even the old H3v is still functional and I have had excellent service from all of them. With Canon, Sony and Nikon's advertising they may be more visible but with the service I got out of my cameras I would stick with Pentax any day of the week.

I have a K100D and while it is only 6MP, it does a very good job for up to 8X10 enlargements and also has an anti shake feature that really helps.

Had three different Spotmatic film cameras over 40 years, took great sharp slides. Old Nikor lenses were exceptionally sharp. Still have them, will sell (49mm screw mount) PM me for details. Ken Nagel, Grand Rapids MI

I use a Pentax MX(motor winder), a P-30T and a PZ-1P for 35mm film and a K-7, K-70 and old X-70 Super Zoom for digital. I've had a number of others, and sort of progressed up the line as new introductions have come out. Great, rugged cameras and some excellent lenses that work well on stills and relatively slow action shots. As far as the new camera coming out, my concerns are improved AF, and some decent video. I shoot a lot of wildlife and better video would be great...My K-7 actually provides better quality movies than my K-70. I like the improved OVF concept and could care less about the tilt screen...I have my K-70 for that.

I am not in medium format. For 35mm I used Nikon but I do love the Pentax made before AF. I can't like any AF Pentax 35mm film or digital. Again don't count the medium format as I am not interested and didn't pay much attention to them.

I agree that auto focus from Pentax was not the fastest in the market, but the in-camera vibration reduction (not on each lens) was and is innovative and weather sealing at their price point was also. An important factor for me was (not sure about now) it was the lightest, smallest APS-C camera you could buy. Hopefully, the new camera will fix the auto focus issue.

Film cameras for me only. I got fed up waiting for a FF, and bought Nikon system at the time.
Although, I did buy the Pentax K50 for my daughter. She likes it, but to me the viewfinder for APS-C is not as comfortable, or big/bright enough, but then again my daughter says she's fine with it.

Pentax FF K-1 II is a fine and competent camera, but not quite up to part as to the Canicon autofocus systems for very fast action sports or birds in fly.
The upcoming top of the line APS-C system promises a lot, but is clear by now that there is not reticule screen, it's fixed.

For all the latest go to Pentaxrumors.com you will see a lot of what's coming and what's not with the new camera.

I have a K-5. Despite the fact that I use my A6000 most of the time because of weight considerations, I will not part with it.

Definitely ! I have a range of Pentax from an old Super A to K1 ii. Sports, action, wildlife etc. It’s all about knowing and being comfortable with the camera you have% I’m looking forward to seeing what the new aps c is like.

I love my K-3 II and my K-1 II. They are stellar tools that hold up to the environment. The K-3 II has the 18-55mm and the 55-300mm. The K-1 II has the 24-70mm f2.8 and the 100mm f2.8 1:1 macro. I also have a few vintage primes like the 50mm 1.7 and 28mm 2.8. In the 70s I shot film with an Olympus OM -1 and a Canon AE-1 Program.
I like Pentax for the way they innovate (though they get little credit where it is due). The feature set for the money is why I am a Pentaxian.

I was fortunate as an official Army photographer (mopic) to have been sent to Germany in 1967. As a Pfc I couldn't afford Nikons but eventually acquired 2 black body Pentax SV's from the Canadian PX at Zweibruken. They cost $58 each. The joke was that black body cameras took better pictures.

I eventually acquired 5 lenses and a slide copier. Still have all of them. They provided great service. Only problem I had was light leaks in the cloth focal plane shutters about 15 years ago.

If this virus continues, I think I'm going to try to adapt the c-mount lenses to my D-850. I always thought the lenses were great.
