So what’s happening with Stephanie?

She Is a business woman. She has her web site and video work and of course she does modeling but modeling has been slow due to Covid 19.

She and Matt do A Beers and Cheers web broadcast on Fridays. (Actually it’s Matt’s webcast and Step is his guest).

IMHO..she is responsible for half MG's subs...

Not sure what “subs” are? But Matt is a lot less interesting without Stef. Let’s put it this way. Matt and Stef I will watch. Matt alone, I might watch. LOL.

I’m a Canon guy but I just made the switch to mirrorless. I love it. No issues whatsoever. Many positive benefits.

I just purchased a Canon EOS R and partly because of the new and upscale RF lenses. My old camera used the traditional EF lens type. However Canon does make several adapters so you can still use the EF lenses. This allows me to phase out some of my existing EF lenses over time for the newer RF products.

Do you remember that many years ago, Chrysler Corp had reverse threads on the lug nuts on the driver's side? It was supposedly so that the forward motion on that side would not cause the nuts to loosen.

I learned that by breaking off a lug nut when changing a tire on an old '62 Dodge !

The article states it would help the glutted industry if just Nikon exited the camera market. But since Canon is bigger wouldn't just their exit help it more?

Exactly! And so it would help even more if both of them exited! Then we could have planned production. That worked so well for the Kiev brand.

and yes I am being sarcastic

I have no idea who Matt Granger is, nor do I use Nikon. The question is, if you have a Nikon, have been using it, it still works, and you haven't found something at least 10% better, why would you dump it?

Because an influencer told you it was necessary.

Take this onboard before dumping Nikon. I saw a vintage Nikon fisheye lens selling for about £60,000. Keep hold of your Nikon 24-70 F4 , you never know.

Watched the video, made perfect sense. Substitute “Nikon” for the general phrase “old gear I’m not using” and nobody would have an issue. We do this all the time, although usually not all at once.

What are your feelings about this? Do you think he is doing the right thing and have you also done this or have thought about dumping all your Nikon gear? Curious to hear your thoughts and opinions. Nikon certainly is behind in the mirrorless category in my opinion. They also don’t seem to be, nor will they be, supporting the crop sensor photographers in the future with mirrorless cameras or glass.

Well, I just saw his youtube video. I guess it's a personal thing but I'm not a sponsored photographer like most of these guys on youtube who get much, if not all of their gear given to them to either keep or experiment with for feedback. So, I think most of us on this forum have to purchase our equipment with our hard earned dollars. For that reason, I try to buy the best equipment for what I'm shooting and hold on to it. I'm not one of these guys who has to have the latest and greatest stuff that hits the market. I purchase good equipment, take great care of it and keep it forever. I am also a Nikon DSLR guy; don't care to ever own a mirrorless camera. I have a D500 and a D850 which I think are the two best DSLRs on the market to date. Just my thoughts and opinion.

He didn’t dump Nikon. Listen closely to what he said. First, he said he has an annual gear sale. Second, his business has shifted to video production since Covid. He is not taking trips and shooting stills. His cameras are sitting unused. He needs the gear to make money. It’s just business. He also sold some other non-Nikon gear. All for stills photography. I has Nothing to do with Nikon as a business. He’s not running out and buying brand x to replace it. It’s a transition due to the changes his business is taking. He said he might or might not buy new gear to replace it depending on how the business goes.

Well, I don't think it's a money issue. Have you Googled his net worth? I don't think he's hurting for money or business.

No I didn’t google his net worth. None of what I said alluded to net worth. It’s just about business.

He has a business and a large capital investment in equipment. Some of that equipment is no longer generating income. The smart business choice is to sell it and recoup some of the investment.

Matt Granger is not dumping Nikon, he is dumping DSLR gear and switching to a MILC system. In his video he did not commit to a brand. He did not make the decision because his Nikon gear all of a sudden turned bad. He is making the switch as a professional who has specific workflow requirements. MILC systems are more versatile and can do both stills and videos really well.

If your Nikon DSLR serves your needs there is no need to switch. Matt points out that they still are amazing cameras. For a pro, having the most advanced and versatile gear is a business decision. Matt came to the conclusion that the innovation these days happens mainly in MILC systems and that Nikon and Canon will not invest much into DSLR systems anymore.

Well, I don't think the statement that Nikon is not going to invest much in DSLR gear in the future is not true. In fact, I don't think anyone will know what Nikon is going to do in the furture, it's all speculation on our part trying to figure out what Nikon will do. Nikon is just like all the other manufacturers in that, they try different things hoping to attract more buyers, especially those who are prone to buying the latest and "greatest" stuff when it hits the market. Those of us who are completely satisfied with our equipment, will be satisfied with our equipment no matter what Nikon or any other manufacturer brings to the market. As one of our fellow hedgehogers stated earlier; the bottom line is the image and the mirrorless camera doesn't take any better photo than the DSLR.
