That's all well and good but the important question is, will it improve my sex life?

The pundits need something to stick on their YouTube videos. Make it a bit controversial and their hit rate and advertising revenue will rise. These camera companies play leap frog with each other and need to advertise what appears to be game winners to attract mugs like me.
The other issue is that people buy into a brand and develop an illogical attachment and will deny reality. Interestingly, the Northrop’s carried out and published interesting stats on this. Absolutely fascinating.

The other inimitable Jared Polin “left “ Nikon but films his you tube channel an Z6s using F Mount lens. Nikon promoted their Z cameras silent photography capability but do not promote the fact that this does not work with flash.

And it goes on and on and will do so for evermore and most of us Hoggers m including me , will keep looking and watching. Why do I do it ?

Imagine your photography if you only had the best equipment.

Until it doesn't. I have never financed a car, so I ride the old ones until they drop. I never look for a particular brand or model, just something that serves my purpose and seems to be in good working order in my price range. My cameras are also almost always second hand. Even if I were wealthy, I would probably still do this.

Lenses are another matter. I have tried off-brands, but always return to the standards, both large format and small--Schneider, Rodenstock, Goerz, Zeiss, Kodak, Nikon, Fuji, Canon, Pentax. Even so, each brand has crown jewels that stand out above the rest. (Fuji A-series, Nikon M-series, Goerz Dagor, Schneider Angulon, Rodenstock Artar, Pentax Takumar, Zeiss Tessar, etc.)

FINALLY a photograph discussion topic I understand what humor was truely implied. Simple and straight forward. Sometimes you need that after reading too many posts at 3am

What you shoot and why you shoot are individual questions to be answered by individuals for there tastes in photography.
Personally I could just as well take award winning photo's with my old 1969 Nikon F.
You will find that photography is not about equipment, it is about individual interpretation of a scene. That has never changed.
I good photographer can create an excellent image with ANY equipment.
I believe it is more important to learn the trade than the equipment used.
I personally shoot a variety of camera brands, I shoot each for it's strengths.

Well said and perfectly logical, Bill. Professional (highly trained) artists use whichever brush and/or paints they need to produce a superior painting and the same applies to the professional photographer. The professional could care less what brand their tools are as long as they perform to their satisfaction. They say there is a coin shortage in the USA. I believe they are correct. There is no common sense.

Doesn't it take the same time, money, travel, absence of sleep, stress, and concentration to take a series of photos and/or videos with a cheaper camera and lenses as it does with a higher quality contemporary system that will likely allow a photographer to "raise the bar" and capture a theme or project in which to take pride for years to come?

It really matters when something that was hard to do can be done more reliably and quickly with better equipment. It frees up the time and energy formerly spent fighting with equipment to concentrate on photography. Sometimes it can be fun taking extra time to do interesting things with equipment others would throw away, but probably as a hobby and not for work.

CONSPIRACY !!! And Cover Up !!!

Did you get this from a corporate whistle blower ? Whatever and however, a good thing this leaked out !!!

I can just imagine the situation. I’m at Carnegie Hall. I make double triple certain that I’m appropriately using total silent stealth mode and as I think I’m nailing the perfect moment I discover to my horror NO FLASH ! I’m so shocked that I yell “Whatda Hell ?!?!” in the middle of a quiet solo. My camera is confiscated and I am ejected by two huge Security guys.

Being reeeeeally sooper pissed at Nikon, I get me a Sony, and a fake moustache, and sneak back into Carnegie again. This time I triple check everything’s in Silent Mode and as I push the shutter button ... DAMMIT ! NO FLASH AGAIN !!! And acoarst I’m screaming foul curses at Sony and get banned from the venue.

Next week, I’m at Lincoln Center with my new tiny little stealthy silent Olympus. And again NO FLASH and again screaming curses ... and after trying every damnlast camera with a Silent Mode I’ve finally been banned from every venue in town and am exiled to Montana.

Sad but gospel truth. But it was Montana or Reikers. Tough call ... BUT ! Under the Big Sky I encountered a grizzled old time photographer who said, “Don’t you over edumacated eastern liberals know that flash synch is connected to the mechanical shutter ?!?!?” And then he shouldered his tripod and big camera and wandered off to shoot some sheep.

I have just started using my R5 (I am one of those dreaded "hobbyists") Love it! Auto eye focus is amazing and oh the RF glass! I intend to keep my 5DM4 too. Can't wait to travel again and get some great landscape images!

I'll be using my Nikons for many years, I don't care what other people do. If you need to buy a camera to be like everyone else you may want to reevaluate your life....

I also use Sony, and sometimes Canon, Ricoh and an old Pentax Spotmatic, but the ONLY thing that matters is how the pictures come out. Period.
