Too funny... hobbyist believe they can establish their persona through the brand they purchase...
Not much unlike many purchase their cars as a social statement of "class"

Commercial shooters establish their persona i.e. perceived worth through the quality of their imagery...
Not seeing many commercial shooters on UHH...

So the inverse of this query is "Why are so many commercial photographers leaving UHH?"

Cuz any humorous amusement ceases to be funny after too much repetition.

Apparently Sony has fast-tracked development of the A7R5 to compete and probably leapfrog the R5 by the end of the year.

The more frequently leaps are lept, the more often we get clearance pricing on the previous versions. Plus, the more frequent the leaps, the less dated is the tech level of the “old” models.

We should all support not only our own brand, but the competition.

Years ago, I used HP programmable calculators -- beginning with the 29C and finishing with the the 41C. It was the head-to-head competition with Texas Instruments that made them affordable.

Today, the market is blessed with the across the board quality of products -- while the current capabilities of the products and capability/convenience of cell phone cameras make it harder for users to justify frequent upgrades. Hence, a diminishing market, fewer models, and consolidating support.

It is the competition that keeps them and the accessories affordable.

How many of us have a skill set that exceeds the capability of our tools?
We should all support not only our own brand, but ... (show quote)

Unfortunately I remember those days John. Programming a calculator was not much fun. As Paul said the EOS R+ has really changed the ball game. I really love my EOS R and haven’t picked up my 6D since I bought it. But as you said competition is the leading factor and things will change for sure.

Haven't you ever heard of a couple things called humor and sarcasm?

Doesn't it take the same time, money, travel, absence of sleep, stress, and concentration to take a series of photos and/or videos with a cheaper camera and lenses as it does with a higher quality contemporary system that will likely allow a photographer to "raise the bar" and capture a theme or project in which to take pride for years to come?

Definitely maybe.

Life seems to present far more important challenges these days. Who really cares if someone changes camera brands...other than camera manufacturers and folks who are so Covid bored?

Cheers!

The youngsters on YouTube are not yet dry behind the ears. They have not grasped the idea of Conservatism. Since it is a philosophy of life it applies in this situation too. "When it is Not necessary to change, it is necessary Not to change".

Aah grasshopper, one must evolve to survive the changes of the future - therefore one must change before it is necessary.
