Spoken by someone who clearly has not used an EVF, nor seemingly, understands the importance of turning your lenses clockwise when mounting.

If you're left-handed, counter clockwise works perfect....for me anyway.

Do you remember that many years ago, Chrysler Corp had reverse threads on the lug nuts on the driver's side? It was supposedly so that the forward motion on that side would not cause the nuts to loosen. Never did understand how that would help when you had to backup for a mile or so...ha.

What are your feelings about this? Do you think he is doing the right thing and have you also done this or have thought about dumping all your Nikon gear? Curious to hear your thoughts and opinions. Nikon certainly is behind in the mirrorless category in my opinion. They also don’t seem to be, nor will they be, supporting the crop sensor photographers in the future with mirrorless cameras or glass.

I have no idea who Matt Granger is, nor do I use Nikon. The question is, if you have a Nikon, have been using it, it still works, and you haven't found something at least 10% better, why would you dump it?

Crazy thoughts. Less competition results in less product development and offerings and does not create and sustain a healthy industry. A industry is created and fueled by consumer demand. Eliminating competition does not increase demand if the demand does not exist. The camera industry exploded 20 years ago with the Digital Revolution where a market and demand existed and was filled by many manufacturers.

Matt uses and tests a lot of camera brands and models. A few years back he added Sony equipment and dumped it. He said they needed to improve a few things. I guess they did.

Unless something changes, I expect he will still be using a variety of cameras and posting videos.

Yes and no. I think the article is more about what is good for Nikon as opposed to the overall market.
Consumer demand is way down, so Nikon, which has had financial losses is perhaps fighting an uphill battle.
At some point it might be better for THEM to concentrate on their optics divisions (binoculars, scopes, medical equipment) where they enjoy nice profits and a stronger market.

If your pictures are not good enough, you're using the wrong brand.

Or don’t know how to use the gear.

I have a Z6, Z7, D500 and D850. I’m satisfied with all of them, although I find myself grabbing the Z7 more frequently than the D850. Love the S glass for the Z cameras. As soon as I mortgage my house I’m gonna order the new 70-200mm. 😂

...supposedly they (the 70-200's) just shipped. I'm excited along with dreading the bill...lol...

Dies this mean he will dump any other DSLR gear he has? I think he is full of hot air. DSLRs aren’t going anywhere for some time. Hell, some people are still shooting with film.

DSLR's have had their time...but are done.
I doubt you will ever see another new DSLR body.

Strictly a business decision for sure. May be good for a Nikon but not for consumers. But then again how many business decisions are made with the consumer in mind?

He didn’t dump Nikon. Listen closely to what he said. First, he said he has an annual gear sale. Second, his business has shifted to video production since Covid. He is not taking trips and shooting stills. His cameras are sitting unused. He needs the gear to make money. It’s just business. He also sold some other non-Nikon gear. All for stills photography. I has Nothing to do with Nikon as a business. He’s not running out and buying brand x to replace it. It’s a transition due to the changes his business is taking. He said he might or might not buy new gear to replace it depending on how the business goes.

Why on earth does anyone care?
