"The 50 1.8 is small & light, but so is the AF S Nikkor 24-85 3.5 4.5G "

If the 24-120 f4 VR is heavy for you and you want a zoom for versatility I will also recommend the Nikon 24-85 VR, G-AF-S. This lens was reviewed by Roger Cicala, the owner of Lens Rental. He praises the lens for its sharpness and performance.
I believe that Ken Rockwell has the same feeling.

I loved my Nikkor 16-85 lens. It was my most used lens on our National Parks tour.

What do you want to do with the lens besides putting it on the camera? Birds- along lens? People a 75-85mm or macro. Tall buildings TS lens. A carry around 28 to 300mm.

Can someone recommend some light weight lens for the D610...I have the 24-120 f4 which is extremely heavy for me....thankyou

The specifications of virtually any lens includes their weight - any reason you cannot check for yourself?

I have the answer to your prayers, it’s an AF-D lens, small lightweight and sharp as the proverbial pin due to its aspherical front element, af 28-70 3.5-4.5, exquisite little jewel fits nicely on the D610

Doesn’t matter what the subject matter is. You already know that the current lens is 24-120. Asking about subject matter is a favorite ploy of “online experts”. The job at hand is to shave some weight. Do you reeeally think a 24-120 was used for birds or for T/S ? GMAFB .....

The the Tamron 28-300 will be a light weight lens and cover the world. I used it several times to Europe and have a hand strap so it's in my hand all day. I'm 88

The Nikon 24-85mm f3.5-4.5 G lens. Weight about 16-17 oz. I use it a lot on my D 850 instead of the much heavier 24-70mm f2.8 that i own.

For a full frame camera your setup is very nice. You could reduce the camera weight by using prime lenses in stead. You would need a few lenses to cover your focal length range.

If weight is a concern consider a micro 4/3 set up. Olympus cameras are great.

In fact, the weight of a lens has no effect on the camera's weight. For example, a camera that weight 1100g with no lens attached, will weigh 1100g with any kind of lens attached. It's simple quantum physics.

I had 24-85 on D750 and I can confirm that it's a very good lens, actually considered a better lens than 24-120 by some reviewers. It is also small and light.

I was speaking of the the whole assembly body +lens. An OM-D M-5 camera and a Oly 12-40 pro or a 12-60 Panasonic lens would be lighter. There are like some DX combinations like D500 and Nikon 16-80 that would be a bit lighter.
