And you should thank god for it. I was blessed with the passing of my TV over a quarter of a century ago. Yea, I mourned mightily. Yet when I felt the proper time for bereavement passed I did not acquire another. In that 25 years I have read more books, edited more photos, spent more quality time with family and my life has become enriched in so many ways that I am now convinced that television is a direct conduit to the "Dark Forces of Evil"

Their viewership will go way down and reading may make a comeback.

Unless a lot of people are stupider than I think.
Hmm? Considering what my fellow teachers were doing before I retired in 2007 and since then the crop of "stupid/ignorant" may be bigger than I think.

Some people will always live up to your expectation of stupid. I prefer military sci-fi, but also read biographies and history. Some fantasy thrown in for good measure. Historical novels are always fun to read.

SciFi, Fantasy, History, Geography, Thrillers, Crime Drama and alternate history get a great deal of my attention. I pretty much Westerned out when I read everything Louis L'Amour ever wrote - I even read his non-fiction and poetry (actually bought the books). Then Tony Hillerman's Navajo Police series and his daughter Anne's additions to the series are also favorites.

Last week my 48" Visio croaked. I called their help line, and we went through an entire check which included powering off the TV, unplugging it, holding the power switch on the TV for 10 seconds, did the same thing for the remote. No soap. The cost to repair would be over $250.

Target had a 50" HD, 4G on sale for $299. Now we have a new 50" Vizio. The original 48" was nearly $500.

We set it out for the trash folks to take along with the new box. Two young men happened by and asked if they could have the 48"; they took it and the box.

My TV, cable box, speaker bar, are all hooked up to a UPS. I just don't trust surge protectors. Our old CRT TV, a sharp shorted out after a power outage, and it was plugged into a surge protector.

Our first flatscreen was a 42 inch plasma for $1,445 ... I had set $1,500 as the price point at which I would buy one ... and it still works in the home gym.

My first (and only) flatscreen was a 55" Panasonic Plasma that I purchased in 2013 from Amazon. My son has it and uses it daily. My home theater TV is a Mitsubishi WD-82840 that is still running strong.

I just love it when someone solemnly tells us what god would or would not have done. My toothfairy is the easiest guy to deal with. LOL

It's going to depend upon what the major networks plan for the future. If they decide that all the "good stuff" is going to be subscription, we will have some issues to overcome.

My son told me Disney is charging $30 to watch the live action "Mulan" and you have to have a subscription to do that!
I'll stick to Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.

will

Insurance companies call it "an act of God." We had wind and rain from Isais, and the TV flicked off and on a couple of times. When I turned it back on, the power light was lit, but nothing else happens. It has power, and the Wi-Fi is working. If I leave it on for about fifteen minutes with no activity, it turns off, which is what it's supposed to do.

I don't feel like messing around with it now. I'll wait till tomorrow. Maybe it will repair itself overnight. A friend told me to unplug it for 24 hrs, so I'll try that.

Before you ask, yes, it was plugged into a good surge protector, one sold by the power company. Everything else on the same circuit is working.

Just like health insurance. Auto insurance. Any other insurance.
Like Jack Sparrow said- "take what you can, give nothing back".

We had a house with a branch in the roof. Allstate said "Act of God"; we said "bad neighbor". A few letters to the parent Corps and they agreed to a settlement, to be spent on repair, their contractors. OK.
The next time it rained, it leaked. A lot. They sent an adjuster. Their "official" decision? They'll send some one to reshingle (the "found" workers didn't know about the plastic strips and left them on}, and paint the ceiling. The floors, walls and carpeting? Well, the water fell thru the air and landed on things. That made it a "flood" situation- not covered. More letters. More letters. Check came a year later.

Mine, too.
On youtube {of course!} there are tutorials for diagnostics.
Mine was the LED power and control board. You'll need the exact sn on the board it self as well as the make model and number of the TV.
My part from eBay was @ $17, took a half hour to replace, and SWMBO has a new wall item.

No, you're not even close. They are way stupider than you think. Just look at how the pandemic is going in this country.
