God Broke My TV

Insurance companies call it "an act of God." We had wind and rain from Isais, and the TV flicked off and on a couple of times. When I turned it back on, the power light was lit, but nothing else happens. It has power, and the Wi-Fi is working. If I leave it on for about fifteen minutes with no activity, it turns off, which is what it's supposed to do.

I don't feel like messing around with it now. I'll wait till tomorrow. Maybe it will repair itself overnight. A friend told me to unplug it for 24 hrs, so I'll try that.

Before you ask, yes, it was plugged into a good surge protector, one sold by the power company. Everything else on the same circuit is working.

My guess is a dead circuit board.

If you have a cable/satellite box it may be a fried board their.

Not to spend your money for you but for about $200 you can buy a power line conditioner/surge suppressor that will smooth out the incoming power, and for $100 or so an uninterruptible power supply that will keep things running for awhile and let you power down properly.

Items sold by the power company may or may not be a value.

If you have a $300 a/v system it’s probably not going to be worth it to you.

If you have a $3,000 system it’s a bargain.

My $0.02.

I once lost not full power but partial power. When full power was restored my DVR would not work. The electric company told me the same thing and it cost $400 to replace.

Just to let you know, the TV is fried. Make that “Extra Crispy.” With the price of stuff these days, go to an appliance store or big box grocery like Costco’s or BJs or Sam’s. Pick up a nice sized one and plug it in. All I want is to watch my Star Trek reruns. Call local sanitation as to how to dispose of the old one.

Most TVs will last 8 to 10 years under normal wear and tear.

Wasn't God. God took a rain day off and left Murphy to run the shop.

Just to let you know, check out the Hallmark Star Trek Christmas ornaments for this year. An absolute favorite including a tree topper and Kirk, Sulu and Uhura wired from Mirror Mirror Universe. A definite once in a lifetime ornament set.

Happy Shooting!

Thanks, we are Baha'i but since most of our family are Christian we do put up a tree each year so the kids grew up expecting one. Sometimes a big one, but since Jasmine went off to Medical School in 2018 (she loved to do the tree by herself) I do a little gold table top one with Christmas dolls and angels that belonged to Debra's Mom around it. Some garland etc. Our newest ornament is almost 50 years old. They all came from my Mother or Debra's Mother. Most of the dolls and angels are newer and a few small enough to use as ornaments. It is also an excuse to buy a couple of boxes of candy canes. Those went to our kids and our nieces and nephews - now they go to grand nieces and nephews when they come over. And then there are the Santa and Elf caps just the right size for a cat - Jasmine used to dress them up for pictures in front of the tree.

I will at least want to look at the Trek ornaments.

jerry, this true. I have just bought a new large screen tv, and this last couple of days the sound goes off. I have found if I slightly touch the top of the tv the sound comes back on! have I acquired unearthly powers?, or more likely is a tiny static charge is doing the trick?

If God had anything to do with it you would not have a TV!
Give that some thought.

I read for a while every day. As for talking to the wife, I would need a seance for that.

I expended a lot of "Thoughts and Prayers," but the TV still isn't working.
