You will love river cruising, because there is always something to see along the shore. Here are my pics of the 2 river cruises I've done:

Thank you David. I'm going to spend some time looking through your photos as a preview to our cruise. The only time we have been on a river in Europe was our trip in 1973. We rode the Rhine from Koblenz to Cologne on our student Eurail passes. We're looking forward to a "proper" river cruise. On that trip we also spent a day on a sailboat on the Thames with my wife's cousin who was living in London at the time.

One of the very pleasant surprises on our cruise was that we could always see land, except when we were crossing the North Sea from Norway to Scotland and on the North Sea going from Edinburgh to London. As you will see in some of my later posts, we were sometimes very close to land, including going under a bridge on an at sea day.

In 2008 I took a cruise of the Baltic Sea, leaving and returning to Harwich, England on the Centennial Constellation. The cruise was 14 days and visited Oslo, Norway; Copenhagen, Denmark; Warnemünde, Germany; Tallinn, Estonia; St. Petersburg, Russia; Helsinki, Finland; and Stockholm, Sweden. It was a wonderful trip and we were in sight of land most of the time when asea. I suspect you would enjoy that cruise.

Viking has a similar cruise of 15 days that goes from Stockholm to Bergen that we have considered.

Enjoyed your bio, sounds a lot like my wife and I. As for Norway, I had the pleasure of serving in the Air Force in the late 70's early 80's at Spangdahlem, Germany. One of my TDY's (Temporary Duty Assignment) I got to go on an exchange program with the Norwegian Air Force and spent 10 days in Bodo, Norway during mid June. The Sun never set the entire time we were there, and I got to see many sites above the Arctic Circle. What a beautiful country, and the people couldn't have been any nicer. It was definitely a highlight of my 20 year career in the Air Force.

Thank you for your comments Werzgarden. I was a civilian aerospace engineer for the Navy for 26 years, so I know what a TDY is; yours sounds like an excellent one. We cruised past Bodo on our at sea day when we crossed the Arctic Circle (the 4th of July!) on our way from Molde to Tromso. I would like to visit Bodo to see the Norwegian Aviation Museum. I have posted 3 more sets of photos since this one and will post many more. Norway is the most beautiful country we have visited and as you note, the people were wonderful.

Werzgarden, I was assigned 1977-1980 at Ramstein AB near Kaiserslautern, Germany. I was a COBOL computer programmer on the 2 big WWMCCS computers there (USAFE and NATO).
