BOYCOTT EVERYTHING FROM CHINA!!!

I think that's impossible. A very high percentage of items that you purchase is either totally or partially made or put together in China.

I wish corporate taxes were at least partially based (inversely) on the percentage of cost associated with U.S. employees. This would provide some incentive to do more here. Costs might increase somewhat but in the long run I think we would be better off.

Because of the current economic and political conditions, hundreds of new factories are being built in China right this moment. Some of these factories, (not all, but some) will produce low quality, unauthorized copies of consumer electronics that will eventually be sold at low prices through overseas retailers with no real return policies.

An important question to ask yourself is: Why is the price so low?

If the camera was in perfect condition, then there would be no need to lower the price.

Camera manufacturers have a very specific formula that they use to determine how many cameras can be sold at discount each year. The exact number is a secret, but it can't be many. Otherwise the "full price" retailers would complain, and they have the strongest voice in pricing decisions.

No. If you buy a camera for 33% off what it is selling for on Amazon (for example), then there will be something wrong with it. You might get lucky, and it will just be a used one sold as if it were new. But just as likely you might get one that was broken to start with, (or you might get a knock-off that was cobbled together with "overstock" parts, or you might get a earlier model of the camera that was put in a newer box, etc...).

I think Chinese Apple Juice and Pet Food, as well as many other items are not things I would ever buy from China. I bought window boxes from WISH before I knew what it was. They were well made, but the bottoms were too thin and 1 season is all I will get out of them, but at $11.00 what more could I have expected? I bought a bicycle frame, carbon fiber, from China. Most Carbon Fiber frames, regardless of brand name are made there. The big name European and American Companies charge thousands for these frames and this one cost only about $300.00! The frame upon arrival was examined by my local bike shop (a former bike racer operates). The quality was determined to be quite high and finish beautiful. Inside the tubes it was noticed they were not as highly finished as some competitors models. I have ridden thousands of off-road miles with this bike and am very pleased with it. Both the frame and window boxes were delivered in very reasonable amounts of time. The bike manufacturer was very responsive before and AFTER purchase. I bought small items also from China. I was unhappy with a couple. Upon notice the manufacturer asked what I thought they were worth. I told him and he refunded the difference between list price and my evaluation. No arguments, no delays, just courteous and responsive service.
In comparison, I have been waiting for a frame from a hundred miles away. It has been seven and a half weeks now. No response when I call or e-mail. None. I ordered pedals from a large American dealer. I have been waiting a month. I ordered a Chainring from England more than 2 months ago. It was in New York most of the time, but last week tracked it to Chicago. Progress, but I live on the East Coast and south of the mason-dixon!
The delays from China may not be a Chinese problem. Shipping here is a nightmare. Many Americans are blaming all our problems on China. This has spilled over, in large part, because of concerns over Corona virus. China has often supplied products with poor quality control. Many edible products have been tainted with dangerous “ingredients.” Nonetheless, the virulent hatred for China, its’ people and Asian-American folks living here seems way out of line and not based on fact. China has not been our friend in many ways and in serious ways and matters. I am not defending their Government, which has violated human rights for many many decades. I am saying point your dislike towards the government not all of its’ people. If you are considering buying from China weigh price, value, delivery time into your decision making process. It may be that the item you purchase from an American or European company was actually made in China, anyway, and at a highly inflated price. I always tried to buy American whenever reasonably possible. Paying 10X the price for an item often takes an item out of the reasonably possible category.
Buy where you want. Make your own decisions. Buying American is a noble thing when it really is American made item. Just knowing all of the factors is important in making your decisions. Think hard and analyze the competition before you finalize any decision.

Has anyone bought a camera from WISH? Typically they sell lots of cheap Chinese stuff, some decent laptops, tablets, fishing gear etc. I have bought stuff from them in the past. Slow delivery but great prices. Lately they’ve started listing some pretty decent if not outrageous deals on cameras, lenses etc.

Just wondering if anyone’s bought any photo gear from them.

Thanks all

As you say sloooow delivery, never again the last time it took 3 1/2 months.

I have not purchased a camera but have had several problems with Wish. Products not delivered, smart watches without a web address to obtain the software necessary. Items that were broken. Delay in delivery. Don't trust them.

Really! With everything China has done to us, you WANT to deal with them?

I bought a knock-off drone from Wish over two years ago, and for the most part it has been worth the cost (around $40). It is a good learning drone, and I'm very satisfied with the purchase. BUT then came the rub. Some two years later I noticed two charges on my credit card that I did not recognize. Both were from Wish, and both were for about $45+/-. I notified the card company and they immediately reversed the charge. I contacted Wish (via email was the only way) and they acknowledged the "possible" mistake. Their tracking information even showed that the item had been delivered (to somewhere in Russia!). The credit card came back on one of the charges saying that they agreed it was a fraudulent charge and they had made the reversed entry permanent. On the other one, they came back and ask for more information. Then Wish made the charge again! I finally convinced the credit card company that these were not made by me, and they agreed. They also cancelled the card and promptly sent me a new one. Watch out what you WISH for!

I bought a live trap from a company I thought was Starlight 7. It turned out to be Wish.
I didn't realize it was from China until I hit the proceed to check out /submit button. I wondered why my estimated delivery date was going to take a month, then I noticed that the item was being shipped from China. I ordered in mid May and I finally received my trap a few days ago. It might serve the purpose but I will not be ordering from them again.
If at all possible, avoid buying anything from Chi... (show quote)

There is a reason why their stuff is cheap. IT IS CHEAP JUNK.

and..... And you do know, there is a really high
probability that China started this virus. DO NOT BUT ANYTHING MADE IN CHINA.

JMHO

No evidence the virus was started intentionally. Possible it was an accident. Let’s follow the evidence before jumping to conspiracy theories (and paranoia).
Unlikely they started a disease on purpose to kill so many of their own and damage their relationships with so many countries.

China. Does NOTHING unintentionally. Everything is planned. They don’t mind killing off a few hundred thousand of their own people if it supports their plan.

Amen to that statement, but it is almost impossible to do.
