A friend of mine was a member of The Headhunters. They had little yellow skulls on the tips of the skids if I remember correctly.

Well done in both respects.. My Air Medal was earned mostly in UH-34's in Nam. Sure do share your sentiment...

I recall flying in a few UH-34's but most of my time was in CH-46's out of Marble Mountain, Phu Bai, Khe Sahn or around The Rockpile, North of Danang. One Marine Squadron did have UH-34's when my squadron, HMM-265, got to Marble Mountain in April 1966. I do not recall what squadron it was though.

I turned down an assignment to Germany after my first tour in Vietnam, to fly CH-34’s. I wanted to be a flight instructor, so I got re-assigned to Ft. Wolters as an IP. I loved doing that.

That's almost funny. I applied to go to Germany from Vietnam but instead they sent me to Ft. Meade, MD for two months and then to Ft. Wolters as an IP where I finished my enlistment obligation and then took a job as an IP with Southern Airways. Did that until towards the end of the war and then quit flying for a living all together.

Actually I did it myself a couple years ago. Just started sticking stuff together.
