My wife thinks I've lost my mind ...
It could be a great conversation piece about your first camera and the prices in the old days.

I still have my first camera.
A KODAK INSTAMATIC 107 at age 10 I think.

Life is too short to drink cheap wine! Even that isn't true because everyone's taste is different !

Okay, you cracked me up with this one!
I'm sure she has her crazy moments, too. Enjoy her and the camera!
$40 is nothing. You are the opposite of losing your mind. Watch some episodes of Antique Road Show. Remember the woman who bought an end table for $25, which sold for over $600,000. A friend of mine bought a violin from Europe sight unseen, for $2,000. Turns out to be 200 yrs old by a famous violin maker (no, not Strat). He spend another $1,000 fixing it up. Now it's worth about $20,000.
But why are we talking money? It's all about fun and enjoyment.

No you didn't lose your mind completely.
Now you are a certified "half wit", not a complete "nincompoop".
I think I’m married to her sister!
Don't feel bad' I rescued a loving cat, they told me. She still hasn't come out from under the bed. Oh yes, why this comment . Took her to the vet for a checkup and got a $1000 bill for dental work. Now my wife won't let me out of the house without a minder.

Not that she is giving me grief, she never does ... and has tolerated far stupider ... but now I have one that is a bone but still works and a very nice one.
That's why she's shaking her head, but it's for the same reason I have a bone NIKON F that won't make me cry if I hurt it and a shiny nickel new one.
I'll try to remember to post pics once it arrives.

A Brownie. You are a collector? Only cameras I even think about are ones I can get 135, 120, or cut sheet film for. Kodak discontinued most "old", "antique" or "obsolete" formats in 1984. Or better yet, digital today!
Mine wife is usually on-board with what I buy even if it turns out to have been a mistake. I have a used smc-Pentax DA* 50-135mm f/2.8 Zoom on order for my BD. Lets hope I put some use to it. It is a heavy high end one like my 16-50mm f/2.8. I usually try to use smaller, lighter Primes. But I have no primes above 55mm to 90mm. And one of the reasons I want this Zoom is because it has [IF] focusing, which is rare for any Pentax lens. Its all good.
