My wife thinks I've lost my mind ...

... I just agreed, on another sight, to buy a 100 year old, plus or minus, basically brand new KODAK BROWNIE box camera that still has a KODAK price tag on it advertised as working.
Not that she is giving me grief, she never does ... and has tolerated far stupider ... but now I have one that is a bone but still works and a very nice one.
That's why she's shaking her head, but it's for the same reason I have a bone NIKON F that won't make me cry if I hurt it and a shiny nickel new one.
I'll try to remember to post pics once it arrives.
Used car term for a plain car with modest accessories.
You didn't tell us the price you are paying. Has a huge consideration re; if your wife is right.

Whether or not she thinks you've lost your mind depending how much you paid for it.

A "bone"????
Perhaps it's a regional phrase, but ... ugly, beat up junk that somehow still works properly.
Imagine a 50 year old CADILLAC without a straight piece of sheet metal, 4 different tires, a cracked windshield, rips in the interior yet somehow starts, stops, runs well, the air blows cold and the radio and clock still work along with all the power doodads.
That's a bone.

If it's under $40 you haven't completely lost your mind. Do you have display case or is it just going to rattle around?
...Cam
If she still lets you out of the house without a "minder" she can't think you are too bad yet.

I may have paid too much, but I’ve spent $40 o sillier stuff ... and it’s not like they’re going to start making them again.
Not bought to sell.

Our only semi rule is that I’m not supposed to anyplace that sells shiny car parts without adult supervision.
$40 for a new toy is great. I just paid $800 for a 1920s baritone sax. Did I need a baritone sax? Nope. The worst part is the thing is in a lot worse shape than I thought when I bid (bidded?) on it. To get it repaired would cost about double what it's worth in good playing condition. In computer terms I think it could be referred to as a "brick." Oh, and yeah, the wife is still shaking her head and mumbling about the $800. I'll probably try to repair it myself or sell it for parts. Maybe I'm the one that needs adult supervision.
