On a camera I have with a very minimal rise to the button, I put the "hook" part of the velcro in a dot on it and it helped, I suppose any sort of raised bump would do the same, but the hook velcro texture was a dead giveaway.

Not a strange question at all. Head to Home Depot or your favorite hardWare Store. Go to the section where you’d find furniture slides and other protective products. There you’ll find self adhesive felt pads and one of those are 3/8” in diameter. Spend about $1.79 and you’ll have enough shutter release buttons to do 50 camera bodies.

Strange question for a strange issue. I have lost a great deal of my sense of touch in my right hand, and have learned ways to deal with it. One issue I have not found a good solution for is finding and pressing the shutter release on my DSLR. Using a back button focus has been a terrific help, but sometimes my finger is not on the button correctly to get an immediate release. I don't want to cause permanent damage to the button, just a way to know my finger is on the correct spot. I have had some success with sticking some velcro on the button, but it eventually falls off or slides to the side. I am hoping some of you may have encountered a possible solution.

Go to the craft store & ask for a polymer clay. It’s the kind you have to blend 2 different parts together. Sorry I don’t have the name of it. Make a tiny ball press it onto the button. Let it harden. It will stick up a bit so you can feel a difference. It had to use it on my old Nikon I have nerve damage in my thumb & cant feel much.

Basically they are little "bumps" which stick to the button. Would something like that help?

You can find the same exact things in WalMart. Just go in the hardware section and find them among felt pads and such to put under furniture and other things.

will

Too bad shutter release buttons do not have the OLD FASHIONED cable release threads like in the film era- there used to be an oversized button that would simply screw on for a bi soft release.

Many of the plastics that are used in camera manufacturing are very resistant to adhesives- nothing sticks! If any glue, hot or cold, accident goes astray or seeps int the camera body- big trouble.

An electronic release cable is you best bet. It can be located on an L-bracket kinda grip or something that you can improvise and locate so that you can easily trigger the camera. Theses cables are even better than the old mechanical cable releases- they plug into the camera, operate via a microswitch and contact is instantaneous- no mechanical drag or hesitation.

Actually, Fuji does have shutter buttons that can be replaced with screw in. I replaced the ones on mine with soft shutter release buttons.

FYI, Fuji has the old fashioned cable release threads on the shutter release buttons of all their X series cameras.

Just like your Velcro idea these were little buttons that you stuck on your shutter release that had a silicone bumpy textured rubber. It was made specifically so you could find the button in low light or if you had your eye to the viewfinder. I’m sorry I can’t recall the name or find the product.

Right. I remember seeing them - red or black.

Little green sticky-back felt pads used on the backs of picture frames and on the bottoms of bases to protect the surface they contact with.

So do some Sony - the RX10M4 has it.

I would also suggest a wireless shutter release (not infrared). it will allow you to use your other hand or any combination of other fingers.
