Strange question for a strange issue. I have lost a great deal of my sense of touch in my right hand, and have learned ways to deal with it. One issue I have not found a good solution for is finding and pressing the shutter release on my DSLR. Using a back button focus has been a terrific help, but sometimes my finger is not on the button correctly to get an immediate release. I don't want to cause permanent damage to the button, just a way to know my finger is on the correct spot. I have had some success with sticking some velcro on the button, but it eventually falls off or slides to the side. I am hoping some of you may have encountered a possible solution.

Would a corded release help out?You would be able to relocate the release.

Hi Eddie,
I tried looking on B&H’s web site where I saw the thing that might be the answer but couldn’t find the item.
Just like your Velcro idea these were little buttons that you stuck on your shutter release that had a silicone bumpy textured rubber. It was made specifically so you could find the button in low light or if you had your eye to the viewfinder. I’m sorry I can’t recall the name or find the product.
Perhaps if you call them, they are open Sunday, and explain what you’re looking for they could help you.
I know the little gizmo’s exist. They came in a two pack for about 5 bucks. Colors were red or black.
Good luck and happy shooting.
Ron

Idea: set release timer for 2 seconds. Use the other hand to press, then regrip.

I found these on Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/ShutterBands-ButtonBumps-Pro-Pak/dp/B06XXFQDB4

Basically they are little "bumps" which stick to the button. Would something like that help?

There are a few different stick-ons that have lasted me year or more with a couple hundred outings. Here's one example:

Too bad shutter release buttons do not have the OLD FASHIONED cable release threads like in the film era- there used to be an oversized button that would simply screw on for a bi soft release.

Many of the plastics that are used in camera manufacturing are very resistant to adhesives- nothing sticks! If any glue, hot or cold, accident goes astray or seeps int the camera body- big trouble.

An electronic release cable is you best bet. It can be located on an L-bracket kinda grip or something that you can improvise and locate so that you can easily trigger the camera. Theses cables are even better than the old mechanical cable releases- they plug into the camera, operate via a microswitch and contact is instantaneous- no mechanical drag or hesitation.

I thank you all for the information. I think the ones at B&H will be what I can use. My searches never found them, but I knew there had to be something.

Again, thank you all!

For a camera shutter, I would suggest a remote shutter release (either wire or wireless).
For a cell phone camera shutter I would recommend the Samsung voice activated release. I use it and it works like a charm.
