Too bad shutter release buttons do not have the OLD FASHIONED cable release threads like in the film era- there used to be an oversized button that would simply screw on for a bi soft release.

Many of the plastics that are used in camera manufacturing are very resistant to adhesives- nothing sticks! If any glue, hot or cold, accident goes astray or seeps int the camera body- big trouble.

An electronic release cable is you best bet. It can be located on an L-bracket kinda grip or something that you can improvise and locate so that you can easily trigger the camera. Theses cables are even better than the old mechanical cable releases- they plug into the camera, operate via a microswitch and contact is instantaneous- no mechanical drag or hesitation.

Another thought is a wireless shutter release. Or a remote application that allows you to control the camera with a cellphone, using the cellphone as a live view touch screen. I use qDSLR Dasboard for Nikon and it works well on my Android phone. I use it for low angle and macro shooting and I tether the camera using a USB cable and an OTG adapter.

Years ago I did a write up on the same software used as a wireless tethering solution to an android tablet, which worked quite well until I bricked the minirouter.

Another option are the little clear stick on silicon bumper buttons used to protect furniture and cabinet doors. Probably about the same thing as the B&H buttons, but a lot cheaper. HD, Lowes, Walmart, and local hardware store have them in various sizes.

Strange question for a strange issue. I have lost a great deal of my sense of touch in my right hand, and have learned ways to deal with it. One issue I have not found a good solution for is finding and pressing the shutter release on my DSLR. Using a back button focus has been a terrific help, but sometimes my finger is not on the button correctly to get an immediate release. I don't want to cause permanent damage to the button, just a way to know my finger is on the correct spot. I have had some success with sticking some velcro on the button, but it eventually falls off or slides to the side. I am hoping some of you may have encountered a possible solution.

For the blind there is a tube of a material you can put on.
It is like silicon sealant but makes a raised dot that is easily felt over smooth buttons.
No permanent damage as when my wife died who was totally blind I I easily removed the raised dots.
Really works well.
My right hand sensation is also limited.

Try a tiny dot of nail polish to make a bump on it?

I have a similar problem...a twitching trigger finger. I almost sent my new D7100 in for repair for multiple exposures when I'd push the shutter button...acted like it was in Continuous High, but only one or two extra exposures. My D500 did the same thing when I got it. Many times it would cause camera shake.

Back Button Focus helped a lot...but the best solution was using a tripod and wired remote. The 2 second timer helped in some situations.

This helped me! They attach with 3M tape and have a concave and a convex, one of each. They become part of your shutter button. I love em! Now if you have a cable release screw attachment in your shutter button they have those that will screw right into that socket. Better yet if you happen to have that option.

For a camera shutter, I would suggest a remote shutter release (either wire or wireless).
For a cell phone camera shutter I would recommend the Samsung voice activated release. I use it and it works like a charm.

Since touch awareness is effected (if I understand your issue), this suggestion was my thought as well. Button awareness doesn’t help much if you don’t have to feel for it. Even muscle memory as much as it helps might not work for you. Voice activated release would also be my recommendation. Good luck!

The greatest thing is a felt or rubber raised bumper pad that you use to silence your cupboards or drawers when you shut them. Probably cost a penny each. They sick on, can last for months. If you loose it no big deal. Home Depot about a dollar a box for maybe 100 of them! Believe me it works! Have great day to all!

You could buy a small package of the round soft plastic cabinet door bumpers at Lowe’s. There be more than enough in the package to last a lifetime. They are about the size of a shutter release button.

A Fellow Hog mentioned some time back the use of SUGRU. It is a Plastic mender that come in black and white and you can mold it to any shape desired. I've put white buttons on both my shutter control and the selected back button focus. Fantastic as now by feel I know exactly where they both are. Too, it very handy when asking some one else to take a photo for you, as the instruction is just push the "white button".

By the way I've also used SUGRU for mending several other items and this is a plus.

Hi Eddie,
I tried looking on B&H’s web site where I saw the thing that might be the answer but couldn’t find the item.
Just like your Velcro idea these were little buttons that you stuck on your shutter release that had a silicone bumpy textured rubber. It was made specifically so you could find the button in low light or if you had your eye to the viewfinder. I’m sorry I can’t recall the name or find the product.
Perhaps if you call them, they are open Sunday, and explain what you’re looking for they could help you.
I know the little gizmo’s exist. They came in a two pack for about 5 bucks. Colors were red or black.
Good luck and happy shooting.
Ron

I use those on both my cameras. Easy and quick to find with your finger. They have never come unstuck either. I think they are Custom SLR ProDot Shutter Button Upgrade: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/buy/soft-shutter-releases/ci/29301/N/3720527312
