Not really, but worth noting. As most of us know, a few weeks ago, across the the nation, there were protests that some of which turned into rioting and looting. Who would have thought that in our little Podunk town of Kansas City this sort of thing would have happened here? Unfortunately it did. Much of in an area known as the Country Club Plaza, a ritzy place developed for the well to do which included fancy housing and upscale apartments and stores.
This area was the idea from a man named J.C. Nichols, a real estate developer from the early part of the 20th century. So, in his honor, a grand fountain and a street were named after him. Now, they (who ever they is) want to change the name of the fountain and parkway because these revisionist historians are trying to tie Mr. Nichols to racism because hie contracts expressly forbid allowing people of color from living in this exclusive area.
As absurd as it is to us today, it was simply part of the culture of the day. J.C. Nichols was not a racist, he was just a product of those times. Fortunately due to changes in law, this sort of thing has been put to rest legally. However, the thought remains in many people's minds and they think that a name change is necessary. Really? This part of town is flourishing to this day because of this man's foresight. Bur. alas...
The reason I bring this up now is that just last night, there was another protest, this time in front of the main police station where a statue commemorating fallen police officers was vandalized and a policeman was hurt by a protestor. I saw this happening on the television news and there were protestors with signs calling to ban the police and to fire the policed chief. How stupid ids that. This idiocy was shared by both black & white protestors.
I just happened to catch some of the aftermath a few weeks ago because my dentist just so happens to have an office right smack dab in the middle of the Plaza.
Not really, but worth noting. As most of us know,... (
