Thank you all for the great comments!

I know well the sentiments connected to that first combination cover. Never would have thought to have it bronzed. I really feel like an old man now. Retired '92. Congrats Tony.
Yeah, me either.....luckily I had a great Mess around me
The only thing that survived the post retirement culling was the combination cover and my vessel/charge book. Everything else was purged in one of my anti-hoarding phases.
Nice job. Congratulations, Senior Chief, from one Navy man to another.
Very good shot, Tony and thank you for your service.

I was going back through some of my earliest photos and adding some newer techniques I have learned in darktable and thought this was a neat thing to share.
Some backstory on this combination cover:
When I retired from the Navy in 2017, the Chiefs Mess I was a part of worked with my wife to "acquire" my cover without my knowledge and have it bronzed as a retirement gift. For those that have served in the Navy, this was a very special gift as this was the original cover that I was pinned in and subsequently advanced to Senior Chief in. I refused to buy a new one even though this one was starting to show signs of wear and tear from daily usage.
I know the composition isn't spectacular, and I think I had my camera and darktable for about a month when this was taken, but any suggestions are more than welcome.
Cheers,
Tony

Congratulations, Tony. I really like the photo, too. I assume you still have that cover.

Thanks Jim! I wouldn't have changed any of it for the world.

Thanks John.
YES, the cover is prominently displayed near the front door and is my only decorative reminder of my service as I opted out of getting a shadow box (display of medals/awards, rank, and warfare designations).

Being a Chief myself, this is really cool! Thanks for serving!
Congratulations Senior Chief.
Perhaps your wife and Mess have started a new traditions! (I hope so.)

Yeah, it was one of those "don't get choked up before you have to say something" moments.
And same to you!

Yeah, with all the resistance for change in the Navy, I really think most of it was for the better. I was still a mean SOB if I had to be. But I was very lucky to have great Sailors, Mess, and even (dare I say it), Wardroom that knew how to work hard and play hard.
