I was hoping a new owner would relaunch Cameta but it looks like that is not going to happen. I went online after a friend told me he saw a "for sale" sign on the property and saw it was listed on some commercial real estate sites. I'm sure COVID played a significant role in any new owner taking on the risk of a retail camera store especially on the south shore of Long Island.
Let's hope we don't see more stores like Cameta vanish away.

I worked for Cameta (managed the used camera portion) - I left the company in early November and am now retired. Basically, the owner decided to retire - he made a number of attempts to sell the company as a going concern but ultimately and unfortunately all that effort led to naught. As I said, I was in a position to retire and start on the "next phase" of life - but the loss of this company was a blow to all of the employees who really loved working there as well as to the photography community. But I guess there is nothing so constant as change and we move on.

Too bad. When I lived in the area I shopped there as well as Berger Bros. which was two blocks away.

I always prefered Ccameta over the store down the street, tho it was slightly harder to park there...

When I was growing up on LI, there were some great places to get great deals on cameras. Bought my Nikon FTN from Rockville Camera and other goodies from Berger as well. Now all that's left is memories.
