Looks like Cameta is officially gone

I was hoping a new owner would relaunch Cameta but it looks like that is not going to happen. I went online after a friend told me he saw a "for sale" sign on the property and saw it was listed on some commercial real estate sites. I'm sure COVID played a significant role in any new owner taking on the risk of a retail camera store especially on the south shore of Long Island.
Let's hope we don't see more stores like Cameta vanish away.

Is the company defunct or just that location done away with?

Website is now down, the eBay store is still up but no merchandise and the store property is listed for sale. I'm guessing they are defunct.
If there is a UHHer who lives in Amityville or nearby, maybe they have more info

It’s a sad to hear of a quality camera outlet shutting down. Thanks for the info.

IMHO they were a good company to deal with online and I'm sorry to see them close.

Really hate to see them go, I've been a customer since the 80's.

I believe the owner decided that it was time to retire. I was told there was a buyer but that was back at the end of 2019. Until COVID hit, there was a website holding page but that's no loge there.
They were a good company and I found their deals better than the NYC stores. Sadly the field of honest, reputable dealers keeps shrinking.

It appeared there was an reopening scheduled by new ownership in mid-March...and then New York's Covid-19 flare-up occurred, and non-essential businesses were shut down. I think it's a safe bet that Cameta Camera can be counted as a business casualty of the coronavirus.

Sorry to see them go. They were a David among Gotham's Goliath's.

Sad to see a reputable place of business go under after so long. No doubt COVID played a part. Bet the scam sites are stepping up to the plate with some great new deals going on. Heh, heh,

Sadly there will be more stores/businesses that will close or not reopen. It would be interesting to see how big a role cell phones played in their decision to close.

I was sad to see it close, and I hope it doesn't re-open under the same name. Look what happened when Abe's of Maine was sold.

They have been my go to store for years. They always beat trade in values of other stores and treated me extremely professionally. I was looking for a refurbished D3200 for my son in law for a Christmas gift a few years ago and they obtained one for me and sold it to me at a very reasonable price. I am so very sorry that they went out of business. There is something to be said about going out strong, and from my perspective, they certainly did that!

Too bad. When I lived in the area I shopped there as well as Berger Bros. which was two blocks away.
