Longshadow: You summed up my remarks well and succinctly. It was
great how well you were able to do
that. Unfortunately, so many will listen to the comments of George, totally accept it as some sort of gospel, and climb aboard, neglecting to assess and analyze his remarks for how or if it really applies. Too many out there will accept the humor as actual wisdom and ignore the knowledge shared by our medical experts.
Thanks again for your concise and accurate assessment.

And thanks for explaining it in more detail!

Thanks for the chuckle, I think that we all know that Covid is a bit different I like his comments mirroring the words of Ben Franklin.

A cantankerous comedian playing for laughs in a simpler time. As Bob Seeger sang, “I wish I didn’t know now what I didn’t know then.”

"From a strictly biological "survival of the species" point-of-view George is absolutely correct. In any population, disease, limited resources and predators are useful in eliminating the weak and sick members of a population, allowing the healthier, better adapted to survive and pass their genes along."

Please let's be careful in our thinking. First of all, most dying of Covid19 are old and have already
reproduced. Therefore there is no natural selection going on, to speak of. Second, the virus mutates faster than we can evolve to resist new variants. Third, when ebola comes through, we get no improved resistance to covid. And on and on.

We need to be careful. Wear a mask, keep your distance, be aware of the advice of good science and good social science. And let's keep on being friends. This will save us.

As human beings, we are more than mere animals, at least most of us are. We care for one another. An individual is more than just his/her contribution to the gene pool.

So we all know Carlin wasn’t talking about COVID-19, right? That he’s been dead for a a while, right? And that he was a comedian, right?. And that comedians often exaggerate to make a point, right?

Thank you for pointing out the obvious that many posters failed to recognize. You are completely correct.

George Carlin wasn't talking about Covid 19. It was not around then. He was talking about germs and mixing in his life growing up. He was speaking generally about germs and how some people in America are truly germaphobes. It is funny and he makes it funnier. That is his job as a comedian.

I have for months now heard all about how bad the virus is, how people should wear masks, keep to social distancing restrictions and so on. I can't understand why some people here continue on as if the virus has just started and nobody has any idea what to do to be safe.

The entire plane of people KNOW about masks, social distancing, washing hands often and so on. Yet with all of that knowledge I still see people every single day in So. California walking down the main streets not wearing a mask, congregating together with strangers and so on. As has been said before, there is no fixing stupid.

A few days ago I ordered pizza to go for my family. When I was in the store to pick it up two people came right in after I did. Both were wearing masks but not over their face. Each had a mask draped under their chin. Apparently they did were not smart enough to wear it properly. In about 60 seconds I had my pizza and was gone. Yes I WAS wearing a mask. It is these people who are spreading the virus my friends, not George Carlin who died years ago.

My point is I do not need some know it all trying to tell me over and over to wear a mask. We all know what to do. The point is in doing it.

Of course they are wrong at times. Their goal is to get laughs, not to educate.
