I have never used a third party brand of ink for my Epson Stylus Pro 3880. However, I am currently having to buy Epson ink for it and find that at nearly $80.00 per cartridge (it takes 9 cartridges) I can’t justify using the printer anymore. $720.00 to install a full set of new cartridges is, for me, out of the question. In order to use the printer, I will need to go to third party ink. I hope the generic cartridges don’t leak, but without ink, the printer is little more than a boat anchor.

Yeah, if you cannot justify using expensive oem cartridges by either charging clients or a need of gallery quality prints, then 3rd party inks are a viable solution. For my everyday printers, I use Jarbo ink as someone else mentioned, and I am very happy with them.

I use a couple of Canon printers that seem to like what ever ink I decide to use and clients seem happy. HOWEVER, I am seeing more requests for metal prints which some clients argue are sharper and more color intensive. After having some metal prints done both as an experience and/or at their request, I now tend to agree with the clients. Yes. They cost a bit more but seem worth it. Bay Photo does good work and I really like Artbeat Studio in Orange County, CA. Good prices for excellent results and good turn around time. I am not throwing out my Canon printers and good paper but the quality with long life prints really is starting to look like the better results. I primarily shoot wildlife and landscape images with a Canon 5Div and the results on metal look really good even at larger sizes.

Check out Precision Ink. They have a whole solution including a device that resets the chip to indicate the cartridge is full, and a scale that weighs the cartridge as you fill it so you don't overfill the cartridge.

I have not used them but have seen good reports on UHH about the company.

So much has been said on this topic and I haven’t been here as long as some others. I have used LD for years and never had a problem. I have a Pro-100 and had other Canon printers prior. I agree with others who have used 3rd party inks. Never had a problem.

Stick with OEM for the best especially if you sell your prints.

Precision Colors although is very good

I strongly Recommend to watch Jose Rodrigues You tube videos
He is the best and has taught me so much

He is the real Thing.

Just replaced my HP Office Jet Pro 8600+ cartridges with third party ones (iKong) for the very first time. Went off without a hitch and is printing beautifully. Cost was $17 for MCY vs $80 OEM.

Don't do it. HP and Canon cartridges have chips that tell the printer that it's an OEM cartridge. Also, many 3rd party carts are refilled OEMs, which can leak. If you've ever seen what a mess that is, you'll never do it again.

yeh,me too. I have had the second order of third party cartridges not function while the original batch did.... Sometimes in life no matter what you do, you are going to lose...... third party ink cartridges seems to be one of those times.....

I ruined a printhead on a Canon Pro 9500 with off brands. The on line giant had a picture of canon inks and when they came it wasn't. I should have sent them back, but needed to print photos for a show. Landed up sending files to a local print shop.

Just want to find out from other UHH'ers if the had used 3RD party ink cartridges and how they felt about them.
I noticed some ads about Inkjets.com and Ink farm.com. I'm using LD products and they seem fine. By the way, I have use LD's photo paper, which looked good, but switched to Red River and couldn't be happier. Have two Canon printers, but use the Pro-100 strictly for photos.

I have never had good luck with third party ink. I've ruined two printers with third party ink and never again will I use any other ink than the name brand of the printer.
The first printer was a HP and the second was a Canon Pro 9000.
I have Pro 100 and I will only use Canon ink.

I have used 3rd party inks for many years with various HP printers; no problems. They work just like OEMs. I buy from 1ink.com. They have an ironclad quality guarantee. >Alan

My thoughts exactly, we carry around thousands and may own 10s of thousands of dollars of gear yet will complain about a few more dollars per print. I use the Canon Pro 100 and only the Canon ink. Yes, it is more expensive and perhaps it is not any better. Perhaps it is much better. I do not want to find out that the ink doesn't look right when I am printing my latest best image. So. I will save, maybe a $1 per print until I have a problem and all of the "savings" is gone. Does anyone print on cheap paper because it is cheap or do we select the best paper for the image? If one chooses to use the best paper why not the best ink?

I agree. Once you get printing down, starting with a color Calibrated correct work flow , it doesn’t cost that much.

On my Epsons I've used off brands with no problems. On my Canon they didn't work well if at all. If you have a printer that uses dyes/pigment the off brands seem to gum them up

I've been using pigment inks and re-fillable Cartridges from http://www.inkjetcarts.US for my Epson R2400 which are and exact match to the Epson originals with no custom profiling necessary. Their customer service is absolutely incredible, as well as their VERY cost effective pricing! I'm going on 3 years with them now..The absolutely BEST 3rd party ink supplier I have come across in 15 years of photo printing!! They REALLY know about printers!!
