Ink cartridges

Just want to find out from other UHH'ers if the had used 3RD party ink cartridges and how they felt about them.
I noticed some ads about Inkjets.com and Ink farm.com. I'm using LD products and they seem fine. By the way, I have use LD's photo paper, which looked good, but switched to Red River and couldn't be happier. Have two Canon printers, but use the Pro-100 strictly for photos.
Search UHH - off brand inks for canon printers. Many, many threads

Costco does a great job in refilling cartridges starting at $6.95

Don't do it. HP and Canon cartridges have chips that tell the printer that it's an OEM cartridge. Also, many 3rd party carts are refilled OEMs, which can leak. If you've ever seen what a mess that is, you'll never do it again.
I have a basement full of dead printers. I used third party cartridges in all of them. I am a light user and it seemed like I had to do several head cleanings every time I wanted to print something. My latest printer is a HP and I signed up for the Instaink auto ordering service. So far (4 months) it has printed flawlessly every time. At $2.50 a month (50 sheets) it will probably meet my needs since I am a light user so I will stick with the OEM cartridges
I use a lot of 3rd party inks/laser cartridges for my everyday business printers BUT use only Oem cartridges in my 2 photo printers. Most photos I print are for client usage and cheapening out on ink, after doing PP and calibrated color workflow, would be penny wise and pound foolish.

I use LD cartridges for my Canon and Brother printers. They are great - excellent print quality, don't clog heads, AND, the printers recognize them as "genuine Canon" or "genuine" Brother cartridges!
Generic ink has never damaged one of my printers, but results can be iffy. Sometimes they're excellent, and sometimes they don't work at all. I like the refill kits, and I've had good luck with them. My current "go to" printer is an Epson ET-2760, which uses ink tanks. I bought four bottles of ink for $63
I use 3rd party inks after the ridiculous tiny starter cartridges on new printer run out. Last time this was on a cheap Canon. The new 3rd party carts have chips and when I did a firmware upgrade as recommended it immediately found them and disabled the printer when before they were working perfectly. Here I had 3/4 full carts and they wouldn't run the printer. Regardless of printer brand but particularly Canon, don't do the updates. Turn off automatic updates as all they are are fishing expeditions to see if you are using 3rd party gear. If they find foreign carts your printer won't restart. Otherwise they work fine when left alone by the printer makers.
I have an HP Officejet Pro 8710 and am a member of their "Instant Ink" program. I never have to worry about running out and the prices are based on how much you use. Check it out! I average about 400 sheets per month and the cost is less than $12.00. Super deal.

If you sell your prints it ain't worth the risk of 3rf party ink. As I do not, I use ink farm. In 5 years In have saved enough money to pay for 3 new printers. If the ink kills my Canon printer I am still way ahead.
You bought good camera equipment, spend time learning and taking pictures, buying software to process it and time processing the pictures, spent money to buy a good printer, so now is the time to save. I would save on the paper (try printing bon napkins they are cheep, and ink (that may or may not match the exact color four the Canon printer program) and then PROUDLY SHOW YOUR WORK.
La lot of us use off brand ink-- I don't and won't.

I have used 3rd party inks in my Epson 7900 for years with no issues with quality or otherwise.

My thoughts exactly, we carry around thousands and may own 10s of thousands of dollars of gear yet will complain about a few more dollars per print. I use the Canon Pro 100 and only the Canon ink. Yes, it is more expensive and perhaps it is not any better. Perhaps it is much better. I do not want to find out that the ink doesn't look right when I am printing my latest best image. So. I will save, maybe a $1 per print until I have a problem and all of the "savings" is gone. Does anyone print on cheap paper because it is cheap or do we select the best paper for the image? If one chooses to use the best paper why not the best ink?
You may wonder why Canon and Epson etc have been selling their printers at very marked down prices.
They make their money from replenishment of your inks etc. My disapointment with Canon who's printers
I admire and bought the 100 to get started and it was awful. Some here have great success with them.
I think they have them stored for a long time and Amazon sends them not in a carton but only the original
Canon box. A few years ago I saw a large roll printer at NAB. Thought for price under 5k it was terrific.
Wanted to start doing art (gallery) prints but Canon's printer I got just didnt work.
Good luck.
