“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”
First time parents never have an ugly baby because they made it themselves.
I often get asked “what can your dslr do that my cell phone can’t?”
My knee jerk reaction is “Take a picture of the moon, let me know how you make out” or take a picture of a football player catching a ball from 80 yards away at a night game with no blur.
So if your livelihood does not depend on photography as mine does and you like the pictures you made yourself have fun.

You wait just one stinkin' minute here, buttercup...

In bright daylight, my phone is very good. But software compensation for a very small sensor can only do so much. The processing algorithms in a phone make programmed decisions how to "correct" the deficiencies of a small sensor. As you progress in photography, you will pick up on this more and more. A phone camera, by the laws of physics, can only receive a small amount of light. The lenses are not all that great either. For the average person, a phone camera is very convenient. For simple snapshots, I use my phone as well. If you really want good quality photos that you want to enlarge to a size larger than a computer screen, you have no choice but to use a "real" camera.

I’ll add my two cents, I’ve been using an slr,and later a dslr for over 40 hrs. I got used to taking pictures that way, cameras have gotten more ergonomic through the years. Cell phone photography has only been really accessible to me for about the last 10 yrs, my previous phones were little flip phones. Now that phone cameras have improved, I’ll take my smartphone on vacation as a backup when I’m caught without my NIkon D7200. That being said, I’m still much more comfortable with the NIkon, and since I shoot in raw format. I don’t pretend to know all the latest features in today’s phones, but I do know if you are interested in the camera, the phone is usually VERY expensive. My Samsung Galaxy A10E cost me a whopping $212.00, a very affordable backup. I still think holding a cellphone to take a pic feels dicey. Btw this question will generate a boatload of replies, I’ve seen this topic in different forms a lot. Hope this helps...

Those Mobile Phone Award photos are fantastic. Not exactly quick shots. Man, thanks for sharing them.

Isn't it nice to deviate occasionally from the same old dusty script? The world will move on, with or without dslr's 😊

Well, cameras are just tools which are getting better by the minute.

The problem I perceive with camera phones is not quality, but programmed obsolescence.

If you want a phone with a really good camera, you'll be spending about one grand... And you'll be replacing it in two years max.

If you buy a camera for the same one grand, it will be serving for maybe 10 or more years.

If people don't see the jaw-dropping impact in these, well, there's simply no hope for you 🙄

Learn the limitations, such as dynamic range or low-light issues or how large you can print, as mentioned - just as you would with any camera that's not top tier.

I agree. The man walking in the sand is outstanding -- to look at on screen. Until you start zooming. Then it, and especially the sky goes away. If you can't print an acceptable 24 X 36, it's not a photograph; it's a snapshot.

Yeah, and try to zoom to... oh wait, there is no zoom!

The naysayers see failure in every opportunity. The successful use their phone.

LOL, you've obviously never lived in a tiny apartment. But, how do you judge image quality from a website? I'd think there were considerations of resolution and pixel dimensions related to online viewing vs. what would be produced for printing.
