You haven't seen the size of the mosquitoes in my neighborhood.

Size of virus has nothing to do with it. It is the size of the droplets that carry the virus.

Please stop such ridiculous irrelevant assertions.

The lack of knowledge expressed by those not wanting to wear masks is appalling! The information has been out there for months; how can people not know and understand how all this works? Of course, there is “willful denial.” Maybe that explains much of it.

Why do people keep insisting that people concerned about masks and catching the virus are “...hiding in their basements?” Most people remain active and do similar things to what they did before the Pandemic began. The difference is mostly social distancing and wearing masks. How is that the cowardice that concerned people are being accused of being? It seems a small thing to wear a mask and is respectful of the health of others and the overall good of the USA. That seems so obvious, but is not being recognized by so many. What happened to this Country? What made so many folks so bitter and hostile? Why attack and name call those who are worried and respectful of others?
The numbers of those who have and are contracting the disease are nationally setting new records daily. Everywhere else in the world seems to be doing significantly better, way better than are we. Coincidentally, other than Sweden and Brazil, citizens of other countries were more highly responsible with wearing masks and social distancing. It is no surprise the EU does not want Americans coming to Europe this Summer. This despite all the money Americans put into their economies. Simply put, we are too reckless with this disease and offer greater risk to Europe than any other country in the world. WOW! More than any country in the world! Should we be proud? We are again “world leaders.”
THINK about it.

This display seems to corroborate what many have said all along. I have considered of having a T-shirt made up which states; 'Nothing you can say will convince me that you are concerned about my health if you are not wearing a mask'

Mine would say, if you can read this you are not social distancing so I could care less whether you’re wearing a mask or not.

True, but the virus is more likely suspended in droplets from the infected person’s breath. Those are larger and have a better chance of being caught in the mask material.
Masks also divert the path of what comes from the wearer from direct to diffused.

This topic doesn’t belong in the main photography section anyway!

It's not in the main photography section.

You may not understand. The mask is to prevent the concentrated flow from your breath to another to protect THEM, NOT YOU. DO SURGEONS WEAR MASKS IN THE SURGICAL SUITE WHILE DOING SURGERY TO PROTECT THEMSELVES –– NO. They do it to protect the patient. You wear a mask to protect others. Do it.

Their rights to wave their arms in the air (and to breathe out virus laden moisture) end where my nose begins.

Respect has been steadily declining for decades. Baby boomers and their kids...and subsequent generations all have their rights.

It was quite notable that this decline included the military.

Nay sayers have an absolute constitutional right to not wear a mask if they so choose. However they do NOT have a right to effect others. If local law says wear a mask when in public individuals must comply.
Same with seat belts, local law says drivers must wear seat belts while driving. If the car is not in motion the seat belt can be removed.
As long as naysayers are in their own homes no mask is required, but if you are in public or in my space put a mask on or get out of my face.

Not quite right, nwrawlinson. Wearing a mask DOES afford you a level of protection. How much depends on a number of variables (mask construction, fit, contamination scenario, procedures, etc.). Quantifying the level of protection is difficult, but for me even a small risk reduction is well worth wearing a mask for my own protection. Add to that the protection your mask gives to other people and wearing one in public is clearly the right thing to do.

Of those who believe the mask does nothing for the wearer I would like to ask: Why do health care providers that attend to COVID-19 patients wear masks?

We are being asked to wear masks in order to care for others, because a person can infect others unknowingly.

Some folks have chosen to opt out.
