The purpose of the mask isn't to prevent the wearer from inhaling the virus but to prevent exhaling droplets that may contain the virus. The coronavirus is not airborne and droplets, exhaled from people, that may contain the virus stay airborn for no more than 3 to 4 feet. So, the intention of the masks is not to stop people from breathing in the virus, but rather catching exhaled droplets that may contain the virus, and the masks will catch the droplets.

To convince those who don't want to wear mask in public, Petril dish should be covered with and w/o mask under experiment. Only for self interest would convince some people do the right thing.
