Personally, I’m glad to remove statutes that glorified those who revolted against our country to preserve the institution of slavery. The statute is no more acceptable than a statute of Himmler or Goering. It is time to end the charade that this was an honorable endeavor. This was an armed revolt in order to preserve the right to own people. Put it in a museum with a copy of Texas’s articles of secession to give a proper context to these traitors

It’s a statue of Father Serra.

Yes you’re bitter, miserable and you’re weak minded if you let anyone on a forum irritate you.

Ah but this is removal by fiat. There should be a vetting process with public vote, not mob rule or Political Correctness gone amok.

The removal of statues is soooo stupid

Like asking countries in Europe to dismantle all Vikings artifacts and statues and ask for "reparations" like these idiots do here?

It is incorrect to believe that the Civil War was only about slavery. Of course you would have to read an older American History book to know that for there has been a continued effort to teach history in a much different light and of course teaching Civics is also a thing of the past.

So again, your favorite way to show disdain is to use a female description. Why do you hate women?

And it is incorrect to believe the sky is only blue. But most people know what color best describes the sky.

A bit of understanding is required to know the intricate factors that led to the succession of the south and it WAS NOT Abe Lincoln believing that the slaves should be freed.

Lincoln stated over and over that he was opposed to racial equality. Perhaps his clearest statement of opposition to racial equality was his response to Senator Stephen Douglas in an 1858 debate in Ottawa, Illinois:

"I have no purpose to introduce political and social equality between the white and black races. There is a physical difference between the two, which, in my judgment, will probably forever forbid their living together upon the footing of perfect equality; and inasmuch as it becomes a necessity that there must be a difference, I, as well as Judge Douglas, am in favor of the race to which I belong having the superior position. I have never said anything to the contrary."

As I said, the sky is blue. To most except except trumpettes and UNC fans. Which is worse, hard to know, either can no longer play basketball, one never could.

Rose42, I am of the age that a form of unadulterated history was taught. Some 65+ years of those early school days has brought me to realize that in order to avoid repeating the mistakes that were made must be taught along with the good decisions that were made in our history. It is important to know the "what" however more important to know the "why".

American history is watered down today and world history even more so. An example is how so many today look to Ernesto "Che" Guevara as a revolutionary hero when in fact he was a murderous madman.

Castro immediately put Guevara in charge of doling out justice against Batista loyalists who remained in Cuba. Guevara became the supreme prosecutor on the island and was responsible for executions that numbered in in the hundreds, or maybe more which was not out of character for him. During the Cuban revolutionary war, Che also was said to have executed deserters, many by his own hands.

Civics classes have also fallen by the wayside of teaching in the public school system. By keeping students uneducated in how the government functions generations can be controlled and the politicians can do things that the public would not know the difference whatsoever. Government will no longer be for the people, it will only be for the self-important elite who will be among the few that will know how to work the system.

Control the schools and you will control the minds. Control the minds and you can control the world.
