Edna - I strongly suggest that you try Adobe Photoshop Express. It is free, and would be perfect for what sounds to be your requirement. It has exactly zero "learning curve", but still will handle just about anything you need to do.

I just looked at Adobe Photoshop Express and I'm not sure it's free ... maybe parts of it are free. Below are copy/paste from my search. The third is a review by PCMagazine.

While part of the Adobe Photoshop family, Photoshop Express is intentionally built for mobile device photography. Its accessible interface enables photo collage edits and social network sharing.

Like those, Photoshop Express requires a Creative Cloud account for full functionality. This will set you back $9.99 per month.

My earliest editing of slides as I scanned them was done in Photo Express, which had the functionality I needed to adjust contrast, remove scratches, etc. Of course, free software is not a match for that which you pay for.

Capture One Express could be what you need. It's free and does most of what Capture One Pro does. Excellent raw conversion and one of the best color editors. Levels, curves, sharpen and done. Stay safe, Dee

Hi, I have just tried to sign up to "Capture One Express", near the end of the sign up it told me this is a 30 day free trial. Has anyone got the program for free. Thanks.

There is a free version of Capture One. Most don't know. Hidden gem.

Only for Nikon, Fujifilm and Sony. Panasonic has free SilkyPix, although I use Affinity, not free, but almost.

You can still find Picasa. Low learning curve, easy to organize and basic edit photos.

I am surprised that no one has mentioned Zoner. It's like Lightroom with some features of Photoshop. There are versions from 13 to 17 which can be found as a free download for an unlimited trial with 30 days free RAW support. After 30 days only jpeg, but it is only about $30 to unlock, or you can develop RAW in something else and finish in Zoner.

But be aware that PS Express is a collection of pre-sets and doesn’t do layers. My only experience with it is on the iPad.

I have the Adobe LR and PS on my windows puter but have faststone as my go to for viewing any picture files off my hard drives. And it's pretty good at processing also.

I second Adobe Photoshop Express. It works on nearly any platform, is easy to learn and does most of the normal editing you need.

Please take a look at FastStone. It is highly capable and has the most direct, easily accessible interfaces I have seen. Have used it for years more than any of the supposedly higher level editors in wich the interface slows me down. I use those editors for special needs that FastStone does not address. Windows 7,10, all Raw, Sony, Leica.

I just started using GIMP, after a long web search of alternatives to PhotoShop.
You can download it free here: https://www.gimp.org/
It's Linux-based and has an active community of users, who update it often.
Amazon also has several books on how to use GIMP.
Good luck!

Check out either GIMP or paint.net. Both are used by schools to teach editing. They are both free.

And if she has a Sony, it is free.
