My goto lens, I have several, but this is usually the lens I start with and finish with in 80% of everything I shoot.

I had one when I bought a D700 ff; unfortunately, did not compare to the 17-55 2.8 I had used on a D300S. It seemed to be sharp one day but not the next. It also probably speaks to my lack of knowledge (and patience), but I replaced it with a 24-70 28 that I still use on my z600.

Check out the Sigma Art 24-105 f4. On a D810 or D850 it’s very sharp. Heavier than Nikon 24-120 f4 but well-made, sharper and great color. I’ve used both lenses.

I own this Sigma ART lens and I am also happy with it. I can not say if it's sharper than the newest Nikon because I don't own the latest Nikon version. I tend to be VERY happy with all the lenses in the Sigma ART series. Best of Luck

I just got my first FF camera. Nikon D610. I was wondering if anyone has this lens. If so....What do you think about it?

Great lens. Fits most daytime uses. Much lighter than the 28-300 the f2.8 alternatives. Distant pics and low light pics my only real reason to change

I use the Nikon 24-120mm f4 as my main walking around lens. Not as sharp as the 24-70mm but it has a more useful zoom range. So that's why I stick with it.

I use the 24-120 on my D500 and D850... am very pleased. I ordered a 24-70 Nikkor and in comparison, was not as sharp as the 24-120 (maybe I got a bad copy). Returned it. It is light and great range for a walk around. The only thing that is not “right on” would be close ups of flowers - not quite as sharp, but I am very fussy. Use my 105 macro for that.

you can find two lenses with same focal lenght 24/120 , one has fixed aperture at 4 and costs about 350/400 $, an other has 3.5 /4.5 aperture and you can find about 200/220 , first one is widely better

I have 2 Nikkor 24-120 lenses. One of them was over $1,000 new and the other was in the $700 range. Both were new from B&H. That's not even close to dollar figures you are quoting. And neither one of my lenses has a fixed aperture. The one that is most expensive has an aperture range of f/4 to f/22.

I wouldn't even buy a new lens in the price ranges you are quoting, because I doubt that it would be any good.

Mister Big Money missed the boat as it went over his head, There are two versions, an f3.5-5.6 (older) not well reviewed but I like mine (worth maybe $200-300 dollars used) and the f4 (fixed) yes it does have a variable apeture f4-22, but it doesn't vary as focal length increases, sells for say ($350-500 used). I have both, I detect little difference in image quality between the two. Very Happy

Glad you paid top dollar for yours, mine are fine and bought well as used.

Did you see that I said I bought mine new? Reputable dealers have to sell it for the price Nikon says. So I did not pay "top dollar" for my lenses. I paid retail price. I often buy when Nikon has a sale.

Also, I said I would not buy a NEW (get that, NEW) lens in the price range he was quoting. I bet there are a huge number of people on this forum that primarily buy NEW lenses.

That doesn't make us superior to anybody else on this forum and I wasn't trying to be boastful. The person whose post I was responding to did not specify that the prices he was quoting were for new or for used lenses.

I use the 24-120 on my 610 and also on my 850. Very happy with the lens. Decent sharpness. Great for walking around when I don't want to carry another lens. This lens and the 17-35 f2.8 are my go to lens usually on a body at all times.

I have NOT found the same as you. I own a Nikon 24-70/2.8E and find it to be a very sharp lens. Best of luck.

Respectfully, you really need to better understand what you are talking about. The information you presented is just plain incorrect. Best of luck.
