there's a big difference between firing tear gas to the ground, or in the air, instead we have video of police firing directly at someone - potentially lethal. and in most cases tear gas has been used against non-violent protests - which is why many cities are no banning it's use. (It's already banned by several intl treaties for use in war!!)

I’m aware of that, hence the “only city in Alabama that has entered the 21st century” comment. It’s known as “rocket city” because of the space center. The “exception” was a take on your post, which I actually don’t currently recall.

Barricading and taking over a large section of a downtown is not a first amendment right, the right to free speech and to address grievances to the government is a first amendment right, to commit acts of insurrection and then try to call them first amendment rights is just ignorant.
