The US isn't dead broke.

Our wealth is not in oil - which has little value right now.

Our wealth is not in gold - although we still have some in our vaults {were some other countries have US dollars}

Our wealth does not come from what our people produce

Our wealth is in our people themselves - and we are going to save as many of them as we are able.

So you want to get a wake up call when you wake up DEAD broke? And the country is DEAD broke. Guess what, a country that is DEAD broke isn't a country.

I am not an expert on fiscal matters so my opinion may be naive: my understanding is that a person or a country is not "broke" if he, she or it has available credit. The United States still has a lot of credit available, hence it ain't broke!

At the end of WWII, the USA was spending 100% of the GDP in our defense against Japan/Germany. And, the U.K. was spending 270% of their GDP. We survived to get "on the other side" of the problem. And we can do it again!

Since there has been relatively little testing for covid-19 and no existing statistics to fall back on, how do they come up with a figure like 2% mortality rate? There could be millions of people that were infected and got over it without any medical intervention. Wouldn't that drastically reduce the mortality percentage?

I'm not saying there isn't a big problem and we should all do what we have to to stay safe. I just wonder how all the facts are determined.

They just make up the facts as they go along. When nobody believes it anymore they make up new facts.

I certainly hope that is the case. However, I would point out that (a)the presence of antibodies does not indicate that a person has actually had the disease (although they may), just that they have been exposed to it, and (b) considering that even if the mortality rate were no more than common influenza, the total number of deaths so far (more in the last month than the entire flu season) would indicate that it is much more contagious (and for the near future, there is no vaccine). It’s the number of deaths that matter, not just the percentages. Time and better/more testing will tell...

And there may never be a vaccine or cure as per the wonder dr Fauci. What then do we hide under our bed forever?

he says this tonight, as positive peer-reviewed news is published about a vaccine. Again quoting Dr. Fauci, who has had more experience than either of us, there is a definite possibility of a useful vaccine within the next year or so. Regardless of what we do in the next year, cautious behavior makes sense, more sense than getting yourself killed does.

No argument, especially when arguments don't lead to solutions.

Our President and political leaders aren't giving solutions to the problems - like authorizing/requiring the capable USA manufacturers to produce all testing supplies, PPD for our medical and first responders, masks and gloves, etc. for all of us - here in the USA!

So, speaking for me and mine only - when we go out, for the forseeable future, we will avoid being close to others and always wear masks and disposable gloves.

And that right there is the reason doctors and nurses don’t have enough protective equipment everyone has to have a mask and gloves.

If the President had ordered more companies to make more gear, we would have plenty of it by now. Mine was made by my sister, and has zero effect on that available to medical workers; sitting in the parking lot while my wife shops, I see lots of home-made gear that also would never make it to the market for 'professionals'.

In Indiana, the ruby red Governor has worked with local companies to make protective gear available, and has them listed on a web-site so that local agencies {such as schools} will know who to contact.

That is the nature of real science - we learn more facts, and refine others, as we go along.

COVID-19 40,000+ and growing.

How do you know nobody cared or counted the dead from h1n1 because it happened on obummers watch.

Government bureaucrats do care and do count no matter who the President is.

By now, the comparison has H1N1 'lagging' by a factor of more than ten despite only Covid-19's causing shutdowns.
