I subscribe to The Great Courses Plus for just ten dollars a month. It has thousands of educational courses in all subject areas. That alone is worth having a TV.
I recently signed up with "Curiosity Stream" when they had a special of $10 or $11 special for a one year subscription. They have may interesting documentaries.

Have you seen the James Cameron movie "Titanic". I found a VHS copy of it at a yard sale for 50¢ a few years ago. I copied it to my computer and used a video editing program to remove all scenes that had Leonard DiCaprio and Kate Winslet in them. That took the 3 hour movie to a more reasonable 45 minutes and made it a whole lot more interesting - to me, anyway.

I agree Jerry--I also have Great Courses and have learned amazing things through their lecture series. However, I don't watch them exclusively. I also read a lot. Having said that I still like to get away to escapism and trashy old or new movies and good B movies (yes, I think a good B movie is way better than a regular big studio movie). Mindless entertainment is good and even surprises you sometimes and makes you think while big time moves seldom make you do anything beyond wishing you had not started it. So thanks for the recommendations.

Meaning you prefer movies without straight white male leads, or are there only three movies you've ever liked? As for the The Expendables, I've seen many better action movies. As far as Stallone movies, I liked Rocky, First Blood and Rambo better.

I liked Sylvester S in "Driven"

Absolutely ridiculous. Ask any actor in any of those categories if they are getting more work than straight white males.
I thought he was referring to the lead roles, not the actors.

There are still plenty of straight white male lead roles. Which actors get those roles?

If you like zombie movies, I recommend two others.
Train to Busan. On Netflix. This is a zombie apocalypse movie set in China, with subtitles. That is a very hard sell, I understand, but I now consider it my favorite of this genre. You really grow to care about the principle characters. ...

Mark! Great movie but it does take place in Busan, Korea.

A second season has been added to Netflix's first original Korean series, Kingdom which is also about the zombie "plague" but during feudal times of 1600. Rotten Tomatoes says: "An enthralling blend of blood, terror, and political intrigue, Kingdom is a refreshing addition to the zombie landscape."

Be well! Ed

Train to Busan is excellent and I don't even like zombie movies. But it is set in South Korea, not China.

I guess it’s all in your perspective. I can’t find any movies that AREN’T sraight white male.....

I have better luck with foreign movies/TV series (still sraight white male, but more interesting than american crap). There’s a terrific documentary on Itzak Perlman. And there are a couple of Australian TV series that are excellent.

Shaun of the Dead. This is a British zombie comedy (!). Funny as hell, and bloody as hell. I don't know where you can find it.

Weird how this genre has caught on. Maybe one day a Bollywood zombie movie?

I'm not an especially big fan of zombie movies, and I can't believe how popular they have become. I did see those two movies. "Shaun" was very funny.

Korean film is not to be underestimated.

They did something "inspired?" by Sergio Leonies
"The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly... called...

"The Good, The Bad, The Weird".

It has a relentless, unstoppable pathos,
that the old Italian master did not dream of.

The only thing it shares with its namesake are
three main characters.
In this case of course; Good, Bad, and Weird.

And if you like seeing gooks getting wasted in spectacular
fashion; you're gunna love this.
