As a follow up to my previous reply, I think some of the customizations I have found most useful were:

1. Set up back button focus for the center button on the joystick.
2. Set up crop mode and/or Clear Image Zoom on one of the Memory settings. (gives you X2 zoom capabaility, but too many settings involved to do it on the fly.)
3. Set up Eye Focus on one of the buttons - I use the programmable button on my lenses.

You ought not to be mentioning any of that around here.

"Thrown away" and he's still your husband!!! Long story indeed. Hope there was no physical abuse involved, The digital abuse is enough! Great to have you back in the photographic ranks. Dare i say it, "Shoot back." Toss his bowling ball and shoes out.

Oh! Why? Too much information? Too political?

Got one in a fit of abandon. Cannot return it. Bought in January..just opening it now. Paid a bit over 2200+/-..questions

Good deal on price?
I cannot find anything on auto focus? Also vibration reduction in equipment?
Tech manual was lost.. any EASY read tutorial

Yup, good deal and GREAT camera.

The best 'manual' for the camera, besides Sony's, is Gary Friedman's (http://www.friedmanarchives.com/A7r3/index.htm). Not free but worth the money.

I have a Sony A6300 which I purchased to take on trips when carrying my heavier cameras is not convenient. I have one big problem with the camera, and I wondered if the same function is in the A7rIII. I find when I change various settings on the camera it is forever coming to a point where it is trying to change the ISO that I have pre set. Two questions: (1) is there a way to prevent this ?? and (2) Is this a characteristic of the A7rIII ?? Thanks in advance for comments.

I have the A7rii. Problems with it, as others have mentioned, are primarily regards the menu system; it is arcane and difficult to get one's mind around. The only other issue is short battery life, so do have a couple charged extra batteries; they get eaten up rapidly. One thing that I did not see, but I would offer strong recommendation towards is Gary Friedman's books. They are massive - for the A7rii, there are 644 pages - but that means that everything is covered. He includes his 'ideal setup,' which allows you to go through the menu system, setting up different parameters, and therein gaining some sense of the far too many options present. But he is an astute writer and makes things clear. Have fun!

The a7Riii does not have the same battery as the a7Rii. It has the larger battery the same as the a7iii and a9ii. The battery life is almost twice that of the former a7xxx and earlier a6xxx. So, having 3 or 4 extra batteries is not necessary unless you are shooting professionally or night shots.

User intimidated by complex new gear is at the mere toenail of the learning curve, not even comfortable with the basic default operation yet. Definitely too political ;-)

Don’t have your exact version but have 6500 and 6000, and three versions of a7xxx. Not one of them does that. I shoot in dingy clubs, in daylight, with slow and fast lenses, and at user-set ISO from 3 digit to 6 digit settings. My ISO never changes in its own. If it ever did I’d find out why. My brain is an old “film brain”. I couldn’t ever tolerate having poltergeists swapping out my film !!!

You should be using the pdf manuals so you can run a search for every EVERY mention of “ISO”. I did nothing special to make my cameras be this way. That leaves me thinking that you’ve done something special, possibly not directly about ISO but that indirectly causes your self adjusting ISO.

I have owned A7RII, A7III, A7RIII, and now A9 and A7RIV. The A7RIII is a great camera and recent firmware updates make it even better. Yes Tony Northrup and others like Jason Vong have great tutorials. Also check out Sony expert Mark Galer who has oodles of free video and written tutorials.

Once you get used to the menu, you can set it up with custom settings where you don't rally have to refer to the menu much at all. The FF Sony's will help you take superb photos. FYI, I am an award-winning pro for over 40+ years. And for many years I have also been a professor of Digital Photography, Photojournalism and 35mm B&W photography classes at the university level. I have taught and mentored many hundreds of students and photographers over the years. I used Nikon and Canon SLRs and DSLRs for 40 years (both brands) and made many great shots around the world. I moved over to Sony back in 2017 and have never looked back. For my work and personal use the Sonys have been super. I use twelve E-mount lenses from Sony, Sigma Art and Tamron.

One of my sites is here: Feel free to PM me with any questions about your Sony and its use.

Great Camera. I use the 7riii and A9. The colors that you get from Sony is so special. My images always have Pop. I would strongly recommend that you invest in quality glass. I would look at the 24-70 f2.8, the 70-200 f2.8 and the 100-400 f 4.5. I now use mainly my primes but these three zooms would keep you going for many years. I started with Sony with an A6000 when I switched from Nikon. Had been using Nikon for about ten years. Experiment and enjoy.
