I own an A7lll, and I love it. Sounds like the price was very good, as I see them now reduced for about 2400. You can download the manual at Sony.com. It is not an easy read on any of the books. Try the manual first, take some photos (what lens are you using), and then buy a book. Give yourself the time to learn the instrument!

I own the a7Riii as well as other Sony cameras. Go to Sony site for the manual. You have a top line camera. Extremely fast autofocus, only exceeded by the a7Riv and top of the line a9ii. The anti-vibration is top line also , 5Axces stabilization. Even non stabilized lenses will be stabilized with your camera. The camera is very adaptable, via all the menu items and custom buttons. Have fun.

My a7III is my overall fave (waaaaaay many cameras in house) but for sure other cameras have much better menu structure and vocabulary. I can deal with it cuz it’s not my first goat rodeo.

It’s a fairly complex camera and I really must sympathize if you’re coming directly from an SLR. You will find it a frustrating painful waste of time looking for an easy shortcut. So don’t go after that false goal. Failure to find it will tempt you to quit.

Take it slow, don’t leap ahead. Stay away from customizing anything before you even know why. Get solid with using it at factory default even if some features annoy you and tempt you to customize it. My Sony edumacation started with older models that had very few customizable controls, so when later models brought me that stuff I had a good sense of what to do with it .

If you have a special photo project or idea and getting the camera to cooperate seems impossible then back off. Quit the idea. Much later when you and the camera are more together you can revisit the idea. Usually the camera will make more sense to you second time around.

IOW before agreeing to shoot a wedding for a friend, brings me the camera and a gun so I can shoot you twice !

It is a wonderful camera and you got a good deal. As discussed above, first go to the Sony site and download both the manual and the tips guide. Then go on the internet. Sony sponsored photographers have good free tutorials and several professional opiners have reviews.

Thanks for the input..i really appreciate it. 10 years ago I had just started an AA Degree in Digital Photo. Got 5 classes under my belt with a nikon d90 and 7100. Quit for family reasons. Ready to start back and found out hubby had thrown away all my cameras and good glass...long long story.. so i got this camera on a complete whim at 2am. Did not remember buying it the next morning..so needless to say it was a surprise when I got UPS one day. It was better than christmas until the credit card bill came in

I am SLOWLY remembering things but I probably need to take an intro class again.

The A7Riii is a magnificant camera. However it does take a bit of research to get the best out of it. David Busch's Guide to Sony A7riii is the best guide book and easy to read. I would strongly recommend getting the Sony 24-105 mm F4.0 G as your mainstay lens for it. They make a great combination.

I have this camera as well and really love it! Here’s Tony Northrop’s tutorial on the menu system, which I have referred to often, and I hope you find it helpful as well. https://youtu.be/ExqpymyUFt4

You'll love your new Sony a7riii....I've had mine for about 18 months. I previously had the a7ii....my first Sony. Prior to that I have had several Canons. LOVE my Sony. As some others have said, it will take a little getting used to....the menu system could be better and more intuitive, but you will get used to it....just stick to it. ALSO....I would suggest a CreativeLive class by John Greengo "Sony a7riii Fast Start".....great class and info...well worth it and not expensive. Also agree with the book by David Busch.......great help too, and you can order on Amazon.
CONGRATS!! Sounds like you got a great price and you've got a beautiful camera! ENJOY!

Along with the Busch guide others have recommended I also like the Gary Friedman book, on his website or on Amazon. It’s a great camera, awesome sensor, but a lot to learn. I find it much less intuitive than my Canons, but it’s now my go to camera for everything but sports and birding, and even that will likely change eventually

I would go to Creative Live and get their fast start class for this camera. They are great and will get you going like no other way. On sale as they often are you are talking $20.

I can now get a new one for $2500.00 out of B&H and many other places. It does NOT have Tracking Expand flexible spot like my a9, something that is important to me for birds in flight.
I am saving for the a7rIV which is also on sale now for $300.00 off. At Christmas I expect it be be $500.00 off if Sony stays true to their prior pricing policies.
Why ask our opinion AFTER you buy, why not BEFORE, seems a little silly.
For tutorials, go to google, google this, "how to use the Sony a7rIII". or "best settings for the Sony a7rIII".

Well known that Sony has the most complicated Menu among all digital cameras.

It may take you quite some time to understand it all. And when you do, you'll want to stick with Sony rather than go to a different brand because of all the time you have invested in learning the Menu.

Brilliant marketing on Sony's part.
