Well known that Sony has the most complicated Menu among all digital cameras.

It may take you quite some time to understand it all. And when you do, you'll want to stick with Sony rather than go to a different brand because of all the time you have invested in learning the Menu.

Brilliant marketing on Sony's part.

Do you own any Sony cameras? I own 4 Sony Cameras and find the menu system Extensive but Not Complicated! Mostly it seems people who have other brands of cameras criticize the Sony menus but have never used a Sony camera. This myth keeps going on mainly by Sony haters I believe.

I work at Midwest Photography Workshops and help students all the time with their cameras be it Nikon, Canon, Pentax, or Sony. In my experience and my fellow instructors, Sony not only has the most menu items of any brand but they have the biggest problem with organizing their menu coherently and understandably.

My evidence is, Students are so befuddled we have had to teach an entire class on just the Sony Menu, and it's a long class. In recent years Sony has been changing their menu structure in an attempt to improve it. Nikon and Canon have not had to do that.

Do I hate Sony like Trump haters hate? Not a chance. It is perhaps the technologically top camera today.

. . . so i got this camera on a complete whim at 2am. Did not remember buying it the next morning..so needless to say it was a surprise when I got UPS one day. It was better than christmas until the credit card bill came in

I am SLOWLY remembering things but I probably need to take an intro class again.

Sounds like you need some medical help with your blackout problems. That's the first thing I'd seek but if you go to rehab, take the camera with you along with the manual and study up on it. Did you have a stroke, or did your husband beat you unconscious? Were you in a coma? Do you have trouble with the drink or drugs? Trust me, I'm more concerned about your health than answering questions about a camera you bought in a total blackout. I'm also worried about you because of an abusive husband you mentioned threw away your expensive lenses. He must have been extremely put out by you to do such a thing.

You can get a new manual on line. And you can Google auto focus for the aR cameras on line.

Add my vote for the Friedman book. Very thorough, gives suggestions for settings, lots of good info. He also has an E book you can download. Hang in there and keep shooting. Good luck.

Got one in a fit of abandon. Cannot return it. Bought in January..just opening it now. Paid a bit over 2200+/-..questions

Good deal on price?
I cannot find anything on auto focus? Also vibration reduction in equipment?
Tech manual was lost.. any EASY read tutorial

As a follow up to my previous reply, I think some of the customizations I have found most useful were:

1. Set up back button focus for the center button on the joystick.
2. Set up crop mode and/or Clear Image Zoom on one of the Memory settings. (gives you X2 zoom capabaility, but too many settings involved to do it on the fly.)
3. Set up Eye Focus on one of the buttons - I use the programmable button on my lenses.

Thanks for your response! I know the menu system has changed since my original Song RX100M2. The menu system on my Sony RX10M4 is based on the a9. Have no trouble understanding it! Sony’s have a fn button that you can change all settings on the fly without using the menu!

My Olympus menus are less complex ... cuz my Olympae don’t let me do what my Sonys let me do.

I have the A7rii. Problems with it, as others have mentioned, are primarily regards the menu system; it is arcane and difficult to get one's mind around. The only other issue is short battery life, so do have a couple charged extra batteries; they get eaten up rapidly. One thing that I did not see, but I would offer strong recommendation towards is Gary Friedman's books. They are massive - for the A7rii, there are 644 pages - but that means that everything is covered. He includes his 'ideal setup,' which allows you to go through the menu system, setting up different parameters, and therein gaining some sense of the far too many options present. But he is an astute writer and makes things clear. Have fun!

The earlier Sony's had too many menu driven items also instead of buttons.
