Thinking of signing up with PayBoo at B&H. Any one have positive or negtive experience?

Yes, I have it. It is simply a Discover credit card labelled PayBoo. You get a bill as you would from any other credit card company, or can (as I do) receive and pay paperless. It returns a credit for the sales tax, and that ain't hay when you're buying a new camera, top of the line lens, or other high quality (translate price) item. It is as safe and as dangerous as any other credit card.

I'm just curious why everyone hates a sales tax more then any other tax we pay. Governments need money to fund essential services. Would you rather not have fire departments arrive to save your house or have potholes repaired? I think everyone became spoiled when you could buy in another state and avoid local sales taxes, although legally, you were required to pay a use tax on out of state purchases. True, there is waste and abuse with government spending, but if there is an alternative, I would love to hear it. Even with PayBoo, the sales tax is being paid, except B&H is footing the bill. Thank you B$H. It is clever marketing.

The operative word is: "essential." In Washington state we have no income tax (notwithstanding many attempts to get it) but we have a 10% sales tax. It varies by county/city but it's a lot. Buy a $40K car and the state gets $4K. We also have so many nonessential services and agencies that voters get a little agitated with the state's payroll. We also just donated over $100 million to West African states via a bogus unemployment insurance scam. Sorry for the rant but I don't care for sales tax.

I do not understand your issue. All credit cards charge a late fee. After all late is late. By paying electronically the payment arrives on the date you select. Why mail a check when it is so easy to use your bank's bill paying app? My bank even sends checks to small vendors not on their list and there is no charge to me. They also, guarantee the payment date.

I paid electronically, but had a problem downloading the statement.
Never the less, after two more planned purchases, I will be getting rid of the card.

Most cc banks I have dealt with over the years will usually waive late fee penalties and interest charges if this is a first time occurrence and you have a history of on time, full balance payments. I can't speak to Synchrony, but this has been my experience with other banks. I'm referring only to payments that are 1-2 days overdue, not weeks.

The states with the highest sales tax usually have the lowest or no income tax. One way or the other, the states will get their money. The biggest problem with the sales tax is its regressive nature, ie, the same percentage applies to everyone, regardless of income.

Where Oregon has no sales tax it has a pretty sizable income tax. Given one or the other I'd take the sales tax in heavy tourist states. Then the visitors help pay for things. Sales tax in regressive but normally those of us less well-off don't buy as much or as expensive things as do the more prosperous, so it balances to a certain extent.

If you earn little money but spend a lot you pay the tax. If you earn a lot of money but don't spend then you don't pay the tax.

Some states try to make their sales tax less regressive by exempting necessities, like food and clothing. Usually that does not include something like prepared food or restaurants. Of course there's a wide variation in what is considered a necessity.

Although this is changing in many states, for a long time condoms were sales tax exempt, while tampons and sanitary pads were subject to the sales tax. Guess who wrote those tax laws.

Interesting. I too have a credit score over 800 and was rejected. Maybe if it is too high, they feel you would pay off the balance on time and they would not make much money off of you.

Not bragging, but my credit scores were all over 800, but approved with no problem and I always pay it off.

Had no issue! Just had autopay set up to pay the entire amount when due.
Saved the sales tax!

I charge everything I possibly can.
The minimum I save is 1.5% of the bill.
Otherwise whatever credit card has the 5% rebate for the quarter I use it instead.
I save Hundreds of dollars a year.
