Looking for a pocket sized camera. Had a Canon Elph-like that was great but lost it on a trip!
The Canon Elph 360 is close to what I had but lacks a view finder and gets several negative reliability reviews at Amazon.
A view finder would be a real plus as I like outdoor photography and the sun washes out a digital screen. Small size is most important - not cargo pocket size. Some telephoto also desired.

Budget hopefully <$300, $200 range is better.
Sadly, many small cams get bad reviews on reliability, even some Nikons. Plastic, I guess - or flukes.
Used micro four thirds, no question!
Look at the Canon PowerShot line. They have a number of different models: G1, G3, G7, G9, etc. Each is a slightly different reshuffling of features, longer zoom vs rotating screen, etc. The camera fits in a pants pocket like a deck of cards, easy to reach and use. Some (all?) capture in RAW for detailed editing when you get home, if desired. Here's a handheld shot deep in the woods of North Carolina on the AT. Nikon and Sony have competing models at the same price.

I do not know about your photographic expertise and if a point and shoot is what fits you best so be it. On the other hand, if you want to progress with your purchase I agree with the gentleman that suggested a used mirrorless camera and you will find used Olympus micro fourth thirds bodies all over. I usually buy from MPB and I have been very satisfied with the description of their used cameras and lenses.
One of those used Olympus bodies with their kit 12-42 lens is far advanced compared to point and shoot cameras or should I say to most point and shoot cameras and you have interchangeable lenses available to expand your vision.
Good luck with your choice.

Sony HX99. This has been my only camera I carry on vacation. Has a 24-750 mm range, pop up viewfinder, sharp Zeiss lens, shots RAW, pop up flash, HDR, panoramic, and in a belt pouch I am hands free baby. Oh, did I mention, you get really sharp images from it.
