After 20 years in US Navy Aviation, warbirds are one of my things. Nothing that old of course but I worked on MANY different aircraft from F-4 Phantoms to FA-18 Hornets. And some odd ones when stationed at the Navy Test Pilot School.
These are great photographs of a great airplane. Thanks for sharing these. I would love to see the finished product.
A friend and I actually found the remains of an F-4U in the jungle on Guam many years ago.

Here are a few pics of the Corsair we're restoring here in Adelaide (South Australia) at the moment...the World's oldest known Corsair. we have probably another couple of years to go..
The first pic shows what we started with when the plane was found in Venuatu..the guys doing the work are all volunteers and none have had aircraft experience, all learned as they went. pretty much everything was built by hand as there was almost nothing left of the original plane that could be used again..
I'm the Official Museum Photographer and am keeping a pictorial record of the restoration...

Great set Ron. That is some project to take on. Look forward to seeing more photos as the restoration progresses and the ultimate completion, and then that old warbird takes flight again.

Very good series of great work, Ron. Restoring or building a whole new plane, that is the question?

Wow that's an amazing undertaking, SX. It will be great to have a photo record of the restoration. Will it be a museum completion or is the objective a flyable plane. Either is a great task.

Good photos and an amazing effort by many to restore a piece of aviation history.

What a joy it is to see these types of restorations all over the world still taking place. The amount of man hours in such a project is enough to cause one to think otherwise, so hats-off to you & your mates for doing this.
The Corsair is a classically beautiful aircraft and should make a great addition to the Museum.
Good luck and keep the pictures coming as you progress.
