since i retired in late 2019 , and as a snow flake moved from calif to TX[ georgetown ] .so now i do 2 things , joint a group that build wheel chairs ramps for the handicaps , and also maintain / restore old cemetery from the middle 1800.[ hard work , those head stones are heavy ], removing trees / mowing /fixing iron enclosures ].one guy is over 90 !. one re flexion , TX look poor in the back country , i wonder at time how they live .

My wife and I volunteer at a ministry called Kids Around The World - they refurbish old playgrounds and install them in countries literally around the world. They also do food packing, creating meals that are sent to areas in need of food. Poor areas with little resources or areas that have been afflicted by natural disasters. We help set up the packing events and then deliver the finished product to the warehouse to be shipped out. I also rebuild the heat sealers that seal the packages of food.

Since retiring in 2002 we have raised 8 puppies for the Seeing Eye. It helps to keep us fit!

I volunteered at our local hospital. I was the Director of Volunteers for 5 years when I first retired in Feb 2013. Volunteered 24 hpw (tues,wed,thurs) Worked with 250 volunteers in 20 departments, over 200 shifts. Last year I was there we volunteered in excess of 32,000 hours. Loved it. Great group of exceptional folks volunteering. And many retired seniors.

I have been a volunteer firefighter since 1972 with my local all volunteer fire department. Although I am not an active firefighter the past few years due to some physical limitations, I still am actively involved in other duties within the fire department.

I have volunteered for the National Sports Center for the Disabled in Winter Park, Colorado, for many years. The NSCD provides recreational therapy for many forms of disability in winter sports (sit-skis and other adaptive technology) and also year-round activity such as horseback riding and canoeing across the Denver metro area. I was an assistant to the instructor, mostly helping with lift loading and schlepping gear. In the winter I usually shoot video with a helmet camera to share with the participants.

I joined the local Lions Club. Donate my time to their efforts to raise money for various local groups. It does a llot of good and all money raised goes out to help others. Our dues pay club expenses. Check them out they are every where.

I once belonged to an organization that had "We believe that service to humanity is the best work of life" as part of its creed. And another that encouraged us to do a good turn daily. I'm now a Shriner and work to generate funds for the Shriners Hospitals for Children. I'm also a Unit Commissioner for my local Boy Scouts of America district.
If you can't think of a way to volunteer, you might use your knowledge of photography to teach young people in Scouts, by becoming a Merit Badge Councillor. You can find your local council at https://www.scouting.org/about/local-council-locator/ and they can direct you to your local District Executive.

pipesgt Loc: Central Florida

I volunteer at the local Shriner Club on Bingo night. Also I volunteer at a youth wood boat building program. We assist teenagers to build wood boats. We furnish the materials, and assist them. When the boat is finished, they get to keep the boat.

As a side benefit, I have access to a well equipped woodworking shop.
