Your b/w are spectacular and really show off the instruments. The drummer in the last shot is wearing an "Elbow Room" t-shirt. Was this taken in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida? I remember lifting one or two at the Elbow Room while in college (won't say the years). Thanks ever so much for sharing. All really capture "music"

Great series. The little boy with the harmonica is precious!

Thanks for starting this thread. Plenty of great shots. About 6 years ago I started getting around to some live music venues in the St. Louis area. R&B is big in this area as is straight Blues. I have befriended quite a few with the help of my lady also my dance partner. Here is one Duo that we follow and support. Rogers & Nienhaus you can find them on FB & YouTube.

We all can do our part, like you and your lady, to support the arts. Nice photo and a good memory of a favorite duo. Appreciate the support and your sharing.

To start off - these are of an event held for the entertainment of All State high school musicians a few years back. I was hired to do the group portraits of each musical group (which happened the next day). I went up the night before to practice the set-up and enjoy the concert: a 50s group which the audience loved (and so did I)

Thanks for hosting with one of your other passions that combines sight and sound. This was taken in 2011 at Disneyland or Epcot in FL.
As you can see it was hot and steamy day.

Don't have much in the musical photo area, but this memory does come to mind from Hawaii at the Ala Moana shopping Center.

p2. Wonderful work, John. So hard to get terrific event shots. One of your specialties?

Not a speciality, I just like to shoot my favorite musicians when I get a chance. I did shoot events in general professionally before I retired. Outdoor music festivals, where I shot Emmylou, are good if you can get close enough, and you can shoot the entire concert. Richard Thompson allows fan photographers - you have to request permission from his web master, and sometimes you get it and sometimes you don't. But it's only the first three songs and no flash (which I wouldn't think of using for a concert anyway). I don't know if other musicians do that for fans.

Nice shot of a difficult venue. Bands on stage are a hard capture and you did great; plus, you got to see the Allman Brothers!

Indeed Bonnie, a tough venue to photograph in. This was probably my best shot of the night, but seeing them play live was a fantastic experience.

My cheeks and lips tingle just looking at the concentration on the trumpet player's face. You can tell, by your photographic capture, he is really into his set. Outstanding image.
