I have a 7dmII and the canon 100-400 II
I take mainly college lacrosse photos. I need a second lens for tailgate and post game pics. Something less intrusive and more wide angle I guess.
Would like to only stick to the 100-400 and one other lens.
Any suggestions would be great.
I have a 24-105L for my 7D and find it an excellent carry lens and all around lens for fun and candids. I use it for pool parties that range from up close and personal to 40' away and overall shots of the pool area.
This matches what you are doing in concept.

Canon EF-s 10-22 F3.5 gives you effectively a 16-35, great for your tail-gating, post game environments.
Sigma 17-50 ex dg os hsm. It's as good as the canon 17-55 and right now you can get a refurbished one from sigma for $279. I used this lens for years and loved it. It has a fast aperture, Optical stabilization and fast accurate silent auto focus. It really is an unsung bargain.
Can I get the tamron 18- 400 in Pentax K mount ?
Sigma 17-70 2.8-4 ........24-105 is not wide enough for me on crop frame.

I see lots of very wide angle lenses suggested and they are fine.
The more "All around lens" though is the 24-105mm L.
It is wide enough on the 7D MII but also works for many other situations.
If you want to add a very wide lens the 10-18mm is most excellent, very sharp and best of all quite expensive.
I have both for my 7D (As well as the 100-400mm MII) and find the 24-105 the best all around lens on the camera all the time.
I am sure you do more than tail gate and the 24-105mm L does it all and will do wonderfully for tail gating and those shots after the game. Again it will be the most used of the lenses where a WA only lens will see limited use in comparison as an all around lens.

Thank you. That’s what I was looking for. I have the 100-400 for the sidelines and was looking for something for walking around/everyday use. Thanks

No problem, I just think an only WA would be way too limiting as an all around walk around lens.
And as I said just toss the little 10-18mm in if you can afford it and you have it all covered in 3 lenses.

How about a pro tailgate party shooter - what would he/she choose? Certainly you aren't suggesting a 70-200 on a crop camera for tailgating, are you?
The 15-85 is a great lens, but I think the sharper 17-40 would be my choice.
The 17-40 is a very nice lens but I think it's restricted focal range would not make it the best choice for pairing with the 100-400. It also lacks IS and the maximum aperture is f/4. For these reasons I think the 15-85 you mentioned first would be a more appropriate choice as a general purpose lens for use with the 100-400.
I have an 18- 200 tamron does a pretty good job on a K 10 cropped camera. For a walk around!
